woody
Hello Forum Members, Been awhile since my last post. I guess that's a good thing. Over the last couple of months I have had about 5 times where sitting at a light and the car stalls. Thank little baby Jesus that she started . The only codes are P1599 and P0300. Doesn't tell me much. I just had the wires replaced a week ago and it did happen one time after that. Not sure were to go from here. Any suggestions or direction is always appreciated Woody 1997 Seville STS
BodybyFisher
You are getting a misfire, you need to track that down (the P0300) Check your plugs Are these the codes you are getting AFTER you changed your ignition wires? Are you getting a rough idle? Cadillac Jim
If the spark plugs have over 60,000 miles on them, you might consider new spark plugs. Be sure and get AC/Delco. woody
The spark plugs only have approx 30,000 miles on them. I had one stall after the wire install and approx 4 before the wires. The idle is smooth no hesatation. What should I check on the coils?
adallak
Is not a stall at a light a classic symptom of bad crankshaft position sensors? The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
BodybyFisher
Have you cleaned your IAC valve and throttle body? BodybyFisher
IAC Idle Air Control I found a good post http://www.cadillacf...trol-valve.html Yes, that is a good post. I love his engine how clean it is..wow.... Try cleaning your IAC, use the correct tool to remove the two screws, I forget what they are, I think T15. check your fuel pressure also, keep in mind you are getting a misfire, not good, given your plugs and wires are new, look at spark, injectors, vacuum leak and fuel pressure Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Cadillac Jim
The 1997 model year isn't known for crankshaft sensor failures but the symptom makes good case for a look at them. The fuel pump can cause these symptoms, as can water in the gas and it's twin sister, a clogged fuel filter. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. True, those are 2000 Northstar that came with bad sensors, but never hurts to check them out. As for fuel filters, in seven years on this and other boards I cannot recall any case when changing a fuel filter made a difference or solved a problem. Looks like the gas tanks are much better nowadays. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
Cadillac Jim
I was thinking of water in the gas from a filling station that ran its storage tank nearly empty, and there was accumulated condensation at the bottom of the storage tank. Every serious case of water-in-the-gas I've heard of is traceable to just that cause. It can happen to anyone, particularly if you buy gas in a sleepy out-of-the-way general store or some such.
