witwwats
One day, the AC compressor just stopped engaging. Fuses, Relays, etc all check out. Seems to have enough Freon but hard to tell when the compressor won't engage. Any attempt to go from "Econ" to "Auto" results in an immediate default back to "Econ". My question is, when the computer registers a Code AC1347 (REAL low freon, I think), does it physically disable the compressor and clutch? Is this some kind of "Failsafe" mode? Do I just blindly pump in new coolant and bring the pressure up?
sonjaab
Correct.........The compressor won't engage if the "freon charge" is low. You could "jump" the compressor at the plug and engage it to check. But its best left to the pros! 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
rockfangd
I usually recover the system and start fresh with the correct amount of freon for the system. If you cannot get the compressor to engage jump the 2 pins from the low side pressure switch. The compressor will not usually kick on if the system has anything lower than .76lbs freon. rockfangd
If you erase that code, the compressor will start again, so that you can put freon in Well code or not it should not kick on without minimal sufficient pressure, As you Add freon the code should disappear GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile

Jumping the sensor is NOT necessary. I have a 96, and have done it many times.
