BrunoBrazil
Whats is the normal rpms when you driving at 70mph on a highway(northstar 4.6/1996 Eldorado)? I have a feeling that the tranny is staying on 3rd too long then go to fourth and back to 3rd...How can i run a diagnosis? Also i had some smoke come of the vents last week and no cold or hot air comes out anymore...Blower motor went bad or could it be something else? KHE
Leave the gear selector in 3 and see what the RPMs are at highway speed. You'll then have a reference for when the trans begins to hunt. If you had smoke roll out the vents and now the blower motor doesn't work, the motor is definitely shot. BodybyFisher
Retrieve your DTC codes from the on board diagnostic system, go to the top of this page, click how to, then DTC codes, follow the directions, write them down, then post them here, and we will help. Its important to eliminate/rule out any problems that might exist Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

I just need to clarify, because you are describing a problem that could set a code (TCC) Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
no code as current...2 tcc showed up as history Exactly as I suspected, post those two TCC codes for us to look over EVEN HISTORY, that is probably your problem, its probably like a P0741 An intermittant problem will show as a HISTORY but it will be enough to cause you to drop out of 4th, I was getting an ISS speed sensor code that showed up as a HISTORY code: P0717 - Input Speed Sensor Circuit Low Input that dropped me out of OD, I have a 96 also Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Ok, the next time it drops out of OD, check your codes. Have you noticed any messages on the DIC that say Service Transmission? The P0717 ISS code will give that message, I replaced mine last summer. Ranger
I think he is talking about the TCC solenoid he replaced. To answer your original question, I think a VIN Y would run about 2300 or 2400 RPM at 70 MPH. Never had one so I do not speak from experience. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Where are you located? im in DC what did you replaced last summer? I replaced my ISS speed sensor, TCC solenoid and Pressure solenoid. But the ISS sensor sets a code, that goes to history quickly, when it sets you drop out of OD and a default line pressure is used. Lets see what codes you set today when you have that problem Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

While you have not gotten any codes, has the tranny acted up? You SHOULD only set a code when the tranny acts up, unless this is related to clutches slipping or clutch material. In the beginning my ISS speed sensor was intermittent, meaning it would set a code every few days, it eventually set a code within the first mile.. It sounds like your transmission is slipping (clutches) and that wont set a code, that is not good news Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
so what can i do?Flush it will help? Never have your transmission flushed. You can drain it from the upper return line, but its more important for you to see what has settled in the bottom of your pan... I would drop your pan, drain the fluid, including the fluid in the side pan, change the filters. If you have a serious problem, you will see it in the pan. I must say however if your RPMs are rising you are slipping, with NO code set, its typically a mechanical failure in the tranny Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
Explain not shifting at all, does it at least shift from first to second?, or is it staying in first?
