winterset
took car out over the weekend, and I had a really bad screech that eventually went away. today I changed the rear brakes. 3 pads had about 80%, and one had 0% it was the outer one that's not on the piston. the pins were clean, and greased. I cleaned, and regreased the pins again when I changed the rear pads. only thing I saw was that the stainless clips were a little dirty with some buildup. Not sure why I didn't clean them on the last brake job, but this time, I used brake cleaner, and wire brushed them till they shined. I hope that was the cause. Not sure what the sign of a bad caliper is, or what ese it can be. something similiar happened to my wife's front pads a few weeks back. again, everything there looked OK too. am I missing something, or can both cars have a bad cali[per? - the van is a 2002 Venture. neither car has had any brake work done - besides pads. SPreston2001
Uneven pad wear usually means you have even tire wear, a sticking caliper, or alignment/front end issues.
BodybyFisher
The back of the 96, has a single slider that must slide. If its not sliding property or the rubber bushing is binding with rust under it, one pad will wear out more than the other pad... Look to the sliders having been bound up, every other time I do my brakes I replace the rubber bushings but EVERY time I clean the rust out from under them with a round steel brush Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
stsjoe
Winter, I had the same problem but that one pad was 0% on one end and about 40% on the other. I chalked it up to stuck caliper/binding never happened again
