2002 Eldorado Collector's Edition ECS

I'm thinking about buying an ECS - and I wonder if there's any "reliable" gossip about whether they have any more or less problems than regular Eldorados. There is a couple of grand price premium for them, and I'm wondering if it's worth it.

THANKS

They should be very similar in terms of maintenance and repair to 'regular' Eldorados. This was not an extensive option set.

I would not pay a premium for this option, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I sat in one and the trim package was very nice. From the standpoint of an investment, this is a one off that will some day end up in the Phoenix auction snagging a big $. It would make sense to find out how many were produced.

I found this.

2002 Cadillac Eldorado

The Northstar engine-powered 2002 Cadillac edition has adopted two of the Eldorado original colors from 1953. Collectors would surely love to choose from the emulated Alpine White or Aztec Red editions. Collectors Series also boasts of the unique trim and seat package as the Aztec Red Coupes sports Black and Torch Red two-tone leather trim with an accent of a high-tech carbon fiber exterior, and the Alpine White cries of a rich, polished Pommele Sapelli wood and is complemented with a Shale and Oatmeal two-tone leather trim.

The Eldorado is available in three models for the 2002 model year: ESC, ETC, and the limited production ECS Collector's Series model. Elegance is visibly catered to these versions of the Collector Series as the Cadillac front seat backs had a stitched wreath and crest. It also came with a dashing new seven- spoke chrome wheels, and a numbered collector plate in the dash. The 2002 Cadillac Eldorado engine was also guaranteed to help deliver lower emissions, improved mileage, and quieter operation while running on regular unleaded fuel.

A powerful Northstar engine powers these cars: A 4.6L 275-hp DOHC Northstar V-8 engine powers the ESC model with its impressive torque, It features a lightweight cast-aluminum block, dual overhead camshafts, and four valves per cylinder. ETC and ECS models are powered by a more powerful 300-hp Northstar engine. The ETC is the most powerful front-wheel-drive production luxury coupe.

Memory Package, OnStar Navigation Communication System, and automatic climate control are among the standard features this edition offers. The car also boasts of the Electronic Rear Level Control that electronically levels the car to compensate for extra weight

I just found this

Eldorado's 50th model year, 2002, would be its last. To mark the end of the historic name, a limited production run 1,596 of cars in red or white - the colors available on the original 1953 convertible - were produced in three batches of 532 (3 x 532 is 1,596)

Well, I'm going to see this car tomorrow I think - it has all of 27,800 miles on it, and according to Carfax, it's one owner local here in Los Angeles, no wrecks reported, so it can't be too beat up.

I truly love the fire-engine red exterior, but I rather prefer the wood interior to the carbon fiber trim - it's sporty for sure, but lacks elegance. Perhaps I could change out the carbon for wood during my ownership, and keep the pieces in case I ever sell it.

I've been driving lesser cars since my 98 got stolen, and I'm ready for a REAL car for a nice change. Got a hot date Wednesday nite, and perhaps I'll be driving it!

Thanks for the input guys!
