Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929)

Recommended Posts

I remember that I was reluctant to install SP2 and all was fine, has anyone installed SP3 and have you had any problems?

I would prefer NOT to have more problems after the install than before the install.

I saw this

and this

Any experience with this? Thanks

I installed SP3 last weekend.

I've been having problems connecting to the internet all this week.

I can't say yet that the two are related, but I spent over an hour on the phone last night with tech support for my satellite internet service and the usual tricks aren't fixing it.

I'm probably going to rollback to SP2 and see if that clears it up.

Thanks. I thought I saw something on that in your post yesterday. I'll get on that tonight.

Oh good. One has to wonder what is wrong with Microsoft, they keep damaging themselves with offerings like Vista and stuff like this. They have fumbled the ball a lot lately.

When I initially went to install SP3 it flopped and it automatically rolled back to SP2. I then found out at the Microsoft site that I had to make some changes to my system registry. It was a simple matter of running a small program that set certain registry keys to bypass certain security settings. After I ran the program SP3 installed without a hitch.

If you decide to install SP3 you must be logged into Windows with administration rights. If the install still fails you'll probably have to make changes to your system registry.

You can find more information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
