Did you look at the schematic, does it cut into the small wire on the starter solenoid that engages the solenoid? If that wire is opened by the alarm when the start position of the key switch will be dead.. You can buy a key fob from the dealer or www.gmotors.com I think you will need it programmed at the dealer but we might be able to help you with that. I do believe that if you lock your doors even manually your alarm works. You might try a test, lock the door with the window open and reach in (as if you broke the window) and open the car door, the alarm should sound.
