mywifests
I had a 1999 Seville STS before and it was totalled, now I have a 2002 and i am noticing the minor changes here and there that aren't big enough to be mentioned in the "Seville Changes Year by Year". I noticed there is a mass flow air sensor now instead of the old little sensor in that plastic cage, and also that there is a rev limiter set at 4000 RPM. I was curious to know if there is a way of removing the rev limiter?
WarrenJ
I'm guessing you're talking about the 4K limit when the car is in Neutral? In gear, the rev limiter is set for, I believe, 6,500 rpm. BodybyFisher
With the STS it might be 6,800 RPM and as Warren noted, in Neutral, its intentionally limited so that you don't end up with this Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
WarrenJ
As I understand, The STS is redlined at 6500 rpm, the SLS at 6300 rpm. Not sure about the firmware rev limiter application. It may well be slightly above the redline limit. OTOH, I could be completely wrong. Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. BodybyFisher
I thought the redline was 6500 for an L37, and 6800 for the LD8, but I found this by the guru 6500 for an L37 and 6000 for an LD8 http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...&hl=redline Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

OynxSTS
The PCM is quite smart and will change the rev limiter based on engine operating condition... If the engine is cold for example the limiter kicks in at about 5500. WarrenJ
At 6,500 rpm my eyeballs are nowheres near the tach. Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. Texas Jim
Another cool thing about the computer controls.... you can't over rev it. Even if you have the shifter in 1st... when you hit 6500.. it shifts to second. And then to third. It hits the 123 mph speed limiter in 3rd before it hits 6500... but I would ASSUME it would go ahead and shift to 4th at 6500 also. Unlike my 2002 Ford Taurus... If you don't shift it in time... it hits the rev limiter and quits pulling.
BodybyFisher
I am not a big fan of Ford transmissions, they seem so soft and indecisive. JimD
Why in the world would you want to rev above 4K in neutral anyway? It's one way to do a "super-cool" burnout. Floor the gas feed in neutral, pull the gear selector into D, and see if you can destroy the crankshaft or transmission or drive axles. Best done with "Daddy's car" rather than your own daily driver.
