suspension STS 2000

STS2001

Recommended Posts

Hello all ^_^ !

I am back for still same problem ...

My car goes stiff , with no trouble code...

I found the way to make it work : I disconnect a suspension sensor, wait (after several engine starts) for DTC to be detected : this way, suspension is no longer automatic but in an intermediate state.. then I reconnect it and suspension is smooth and automatic for two days...and back to stiff (very stiff)...

Does anyone have a clue????? are my shocks worned out? (I don't think so) I am lost :o

Have you run the codes through the A/C controls or are you just saying that there are no messages? Which sensor do you disconnect? Do you disconnect it electrically, or do you say, unhook a ride sensor arm?

I run the codes thru to dashboard panel..didnt' use tool.

I disconnetd electricaly a rear ride sensor to force system to be "passive".

Do you mean I should use an OBD tool to go deeper?

Hello

I found a way to have may car smooth again : I suppressed the two antiroll bars, front and rear...car is now fantastic, very smooth and soft ride..I wonde rif european version has stronger antiroll bar....

finally I think this car doesn't need anti roll bars...it is large enough to get rid of it...

You know, I just tranlated the French above back to english and it makes no sense.

I said, Hello from the US, can you explain better what you mean by suppressed, do you mean that you replaced the stabilizer bar bushings? There are two bar bushings on each bar front and rear, plus the links.

lol kind to speak in french :) !!

In fact I suppressed the links (one on each side is enough to de activate stabilizer bar)... the car is now a real american car as I like it, almost as soft as my father's 86 deville.. (he sold it, he has bought a corvette).

/// but i'm still wondering what is wrong in the suspension...

Ahh, you are funny! I gather you LIKE the rolling body and you de-activated the stabilizer bars! That is very interesting... I am glad you like the ride better!

Unfortunately, and this is what I think is so funny, AMERICAN cars have been TRYING to feel like European cars for 20 or so years and here you are saying you LIKE the American car ride, very interesting. Our car magazines have always said that the European car handled better. But I do understand what you mean though by a classic Cadillac ride, it rides like a baby coach... Where as your STS probably knocks your back teeth out and makes you tighten your butt muscles on turns  I was thinking that if you were using Z rated tires, you might like the ride better with an H rated tire

Tell us more about your suspension problem, where it stiffens, explain when, is it intermitant, etc

I had a friend with a 1954 Corvette when it was still a late model car. Americans have always known how to make a car ride and handle. The American public does not buy such cars in sufficient volume to interest the Big 3, however. Thus such cars are image or niche cars, like the Corvette, Viper, Solstace, and Satun SKY.

The whole point of a Seville over a Deville is the handling. Disconnecting the stabilizer bars and liking it is beyond my comprehension. Fix the suspension and you will like both the ride and the handling better.

If you like the ride of the 1986 Deville it is possible that you would like the ride of the Deville better. I have been trying to tighten mine up for two years  in every way possible. I prefer the Seville handling, and can only imagine that the STS handles amazing with z rated tires, the trade off being that its harder on your body as you feel every bump. Given that you have complained about your suspension stiffening up, I gather you are bothered by that aspect of the car. See if you can drive a Deville.

Hi all

Since I can drive, I've always dream of a car that rolls like an 70's american car. I love it, over anything else that roll.

I search amoung european cars, and the only one that delighted me was citroen CX, or XM : you would be amazed to drive such car, how smooth it is, perfect air ride. Hydraulic 3000psi was fantastic..

Unfortunatly these cars are now getting old and robustness is not good, it becomes hard to find one in mint condition. Moreover, citroen engines are like my grand mother cafe grinder when compared to V8!!!

I tried Audi, BMW, mercedes, even volvo are getting stiffer...

My seville STS is perfectly smooth when CVRSS is OK, but mine is aways stiff (my car)..I can't stand it.

Here what happens : imagine I reset system (I disconnect a rear ride sensor for example but any other sensor can do same job), then I reconnect it : suspension is perfect for some hours, and then, it becomes stiff again, and never comes back smooth...

I checked all sensors (mouting, operate free with no hard point ) I don't know what other sensor I should check (steering? ...) in the CVRSS system...I found a preety good document in the internet that describes the system but it was not precise enough. If someone has a full document I thank youuuu!

I checked of course DTC and no codes : my car think it works perfectly but I know she doesn't ;)

In the mean time, I then disconneted stabiliser links (very easy!) OK car is now bouncing a lot, not as mush as deville, but smooth enough to make me feel I was sailing.

thank for you attention!!! and thanks for advices before I decide to pay $1500 at dealer (last time I had an electronic trouble that was they charged me..I am not willing to pay it again)

have a nice day

Edouard

Edouard,

You have a very beautiful car. I love that color.

I am sorry for you that the suspension does not stay the way you like it. There is nothing like driving a Cadillac that you really like. :D

I have a 2006 DTS Performance Sedan. The suspension on it is also real stiff. Most of the time, I wish it was softer and smoother. Part of the stiffness comes from the low profile tires and 18 inch wheels.

I have had people comment that it "Does not ride like a Cadillac."

Then I take it on a high speed trip at 85 / 100+ MPH and it holds the road like it was glued to it. Or get it on a real crooked mountain road. "THEN" it will make you smile. With the StabilaTrac and Magnetic Ride Control, you can out brake most normal cars, and corner faster than they can. It is a real joy to drive it fast and hard. The car seems to love being driven hard. ( I enjoy it too.) :D:D And the look on someones face who is driving a so called "SPORT" type car, who can't outrun or out corner a Cadillac is priceless.

But in "NORMAL" driving, (which is about 75 percent of my driving) just cruising down the freeway or driving on regular streets in town, ( I am like you), I wish it was softer and smoother.
