Think in terms of defroster and defogger, that's where you will miss it.

I think I can manage that. But as for the $275 motor, cant do that anytime soon, but winter is coming and I never use the heat.

Never use heat! Where do you live?

BTW, I think you can beat that $275 by going to http://www.gmotors.com

http://www.rockauto.com

or

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com

Can't recall exactly what I paid but I want to say $200 - $225 incl shipping.

Do I remember correctly that some here have said that ignition wires placed close to the blower motor can cause problems?

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

The whole block is just a few inches to the left of it. Thats the stock location. none of the wires run anywhere near it, they run down the back side of the motor.

Yes Warren, I made that statement in Post #4 in this thread, I said this:

My fan was replaced on my 96, the fans are the Achilles heel of this car. It is important to keep the ignition wires away from the fan controller as EMF leakage/transients can damage components on the board.

The new motors come with a grounding shield.

Mike,

Sometimes you scare me! Not only do you have links to everything you ever posted, but you seem to have search skills that are often scarey!:lol::lol:

What *really* scares me is that you seem to have photos, in pieces, of everything you've ever owned. :) I made pieces of everything this kid ever owned, but I didn't necessarily take photos! Mostly, I put them back together without any parts left over. I charged extra for no parts left over!

My Mom, bless her, used to say of me as a kid, that by the time I was five years old I'd know everything she knew! Yeah, I asked a lot of questions. :)

Regards,

Warren

I think Ranger also says that I have good search skills. I have a good memory to, and can remember threads that have gone down, I just need to search for it... I have a subdirectory of about 500 photos in my Auto Scans folder. There are so many photos now, that I am considering putting them in specific folders, ie, AC, Brakes, etc..

As a kid I too took apart everything, Penn reels, Baby Ben clocks, etc.. Remember Mr. Machine? Had one of the originals...

Yes, but as mentioned, normal routing is pretty close so I don't know how close is too close. I know you don't want the resting against the blower.

I agree, Mikes search ability is uncanny. I too have a pretty good memory for things that have been said, especially by the Guru, but I have a hard time finding them sometimes. In that case, I just pass the ball to Mike.

The ignition wires must be at least 1 inch away from the blower botor.

CKT 754 is described on Page 8A-66-0 of the FSM. It runs from the ACM through the firewall at grommet P101 and to the Blower Speed Input terminal (terminal "B") of the Blower Motor.

Use a voltmeter and see what voltage you have by backprobing terminal "B" and follow the diagnostic tree.

The diagnotic tree that I gave you the link to is for a 95, the 96 diagnostic tree is slightly different from that point. But the #2 (for 1995) is #3 in the 1996 Service Manual. Follow the diagnostics for #2 in the link I gave you. At least you can determine if its the motor or the ACM.

My guess is that its the motor. Try a junk yard if you can't afford a new motor at this point.
