meanstreak
my 96 sts has an intermittent power steering thing going on. there's no telling when or where but out of the blue it's nice and easy, the next minute it's heavy. took it to the dealer and got the song and dance -well it might be the pump, but maybe the rack! sounds like electrical to me. anyone have a problem like this? thanks for any help....... Cadillac Jim
A conservative policy for changing the serpentine belt is 30,000 miles. The first sign of slippage is loss of power steering or alternator for a few seconds when driving through a puddle. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. meanstreak
its not the belt, checked that. your sitting in a drive thru and your hand is on the wheel and you've got to use at least one hand to turn the wheel, then just like somebody turned a switch on you can turn the wheel with one finger. sometimes it stays easy for a couple of minutes but usually it only lasts less than a minute. the dealer checked the pump and its putting out 1660 psi, only down 40 psi from new
meanstreak
found a little more info but still no closer to the actual problem. seems these caddy's have either speed sensitive steering or magnasteer. both of these have some electrical components. if anyone has dealt with either of these systems feel free to offer any suggestions. thanks in advance
