ted tcb
Well, the time did come to make a change on my 99 STS. I loved the car's design, but an accident earlier in its life was taking a toll. Body panel repairs down low were resulting in large internal corrosion, there was a possible differential grinding noise, and the basic structure felt very loose. Going over the smallest bumps caused the weirdest sensations of oscillating rolls in the chassis. I simply don't have the time and resources to bring her back to her former glory. These are the best cars in the world ... but no car can survive poor repairs. I really should've kept my nice 97 STS ... oh well, hindsight is always clear. I'm still visiting this board daily, as the members are like old friends. Also, I'm only temporarily without an STS. I'm searching to replace my wife's Accord with another Seville (it would be my 4th!). Anyway, don't shoot me, but I went for a Mopar That's right, a 2004 Concorde LXI. I'm pretty much a GM guy, but I really didn't want to be strangled with a car payment ... so I bought a 30 month old Chrysler with 50mi. and tons of warranty. The deciding factor was a local aquaintance just traded it in on a 300C. It has never seen a Canadian winter, which is huge for a detail nut like myself. I simply haven't seen a cleaner used car. The original owner runs a large detailing shop, and winters the car in Florida. Its a champagne gold, bronze window tint, clear 3m bra, 17in. chrome rims, and was relatively cheap. Even fully loaded, its not at the level of an STS. The STS I want is a 2004 with under 50k ... but up here, the last year STS's bring serious coin ... more than I can swing. So, here's my compromise ... for the time being. In the meantime, if no one objects, I'd like to continue to hang around and participate a little. ted tcb
Thanks for the kind words. When I feel the need to sort out problems on an older car, I head to the garage and play with my 71 Cutlass rag top. This is a car that even I have success playing with. I just got in from visiting my folks up in Bracebridge, Muskoka. The car cruised very nicely at 80mph, averaging 25mpg. Still not a Caddy, though. I know I'll need my STS fix soon. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
chazglenn3
I owned a 2000 LHS briefly, but the road noise and feel were just too harsh for a flagship sedan to me. I bought it brand new and traded it for a 1999 Ford Expedition 2 months later. Hopefully they were able to sort those issues out in the later years. Funny, I also had a 1972 Cutlass Supreme with the 455 and turbo 400. Small world Charles Charles
ted tcb
I knew going into this that the LH body doesn't have high NVH levels. Its quieter and smoother than our Accord or my 95 STS. It isn't as quiet as my old 97 or 99 STS, but its essentially a new luxury car for not too much coin. Now, if I can find a creampuff 97 STS, I'd be one happy guy. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
JasonA
Ted, that's a fine-looking car. Does it have the 2.7L or the 3.5L? Either way, I think that both are fantastic engines. Don't let anyone badmouth the 41TE transmission -- it's a great unit that has seen a lot of updating over the years ever since it first came out as the A604 (I think). Only use Mopar ATF+4 fluid and you'll be fine. The coolant is also special -- it's a hybrid organic acid technology coolant. Similar to Dexcool, but with a little bit of silicates in it still. It's good for 5 years or 100,000 miles. You can get it at the dealer, but it's also sold as Valvoline Zerex G-05. Just as with the Cadillac, I wouldn't put any "universal" coolant in there, like Prestone's yellow stuff. I'm sure you'll be really happy with your new Chrysler. We love our Dodge Grand Caravan.
