Passenger Side Rear Door Won't Lock.

My passenger side rear door won't lock. I'm tired of spending money on this car and I want to know if there's a way to bypass the actuator so I can just manually lock the door from the inside and forget about it so that when I use the power door locks to lock or unlock the other doors, this back door won't open on me and will remain locked.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

So the door is unlocking with the remote but it won't lock? so it stays open? I had that on my 91 if I recall. You might be able to take off the panel and cut and tape or disconnect the actuator wire so that it becomes inoperative and then just lock and unlock it manually

The 92 Seville does not have a remote. When I use one of the power door locks to lock all the doors, the passenger side rear door does not lock and when I press on the manual level to lock it, it won't lock either because I believe when the actuator fails, it somehow stops the manual lock from working as well. I'm trying to figure out a way to disable the actuator I guess so that I can still manually lock and unlock the door but so it won't respond to the other power door locks, if this makes any sense to you guys...

You might have remote power locks on that car, I think I have a remote from my 91 that I can send you that you might be able to program if you are interested.

You might have a mechanical issue in your door, when the actuator fails you SHOULD still be able to lock and unlock it manually. I had an actuator problem in my 91 that did not affect manual locking and unlocking.. There is a control rod that might have come loose in that door for the manual control

I have had actuators fail two other times on this car and in both cases, it stopped the manual locks from working correctly, either the door could not be unlocked or it could not be locked but in both cases, failure of the actuator made locking or unlocking the doors manually, useless, which is dangerous, by the way.

So the door is unlocking with the remote but it won't lock? so it stays open? I had that on my 91 if I recall. You might be able to take off the panel and cut the actuator wire so that it becomes inoperative and then just lock and unlock it manually

I was told by the person who sold me the car that it NEVER came with a remote.

Is the manual locking mechanism frozen or is it flopping?

I am surprised that it doesn't have remote locking, I thought they all did.

It's frozen like a piece of rubber, you can push down on it, but it springs back up and won't lock. The dealership thought it was odd also that the car has no remote but the owner claims there was no remote.

Marika,

My '92 Seville has remotes. I had the same problem with my actuator in the rear door, but I could use the manual lock to lock it. In any case, sounds like the door panel has to come off no matter what. You might could remove the actuator completely and leave it out because it sounds like it is frozen...strange.

I suspect the problem is rather mechanical. Removing the panel, inspecting the links for rust etc. cleaning greasing could help. My door locks acted up a couple of times too. No remote? Are you sure?

No remotes. That's what the owner said.

OK, this morning the body shop installed a new actuator for that door. The old was jammed and the "up down" level was not moving which would explain why the door could not be locked. Soooooooo, it's working again. Thank you everyone for your advice and great information.

Oh yeah, $70 for the actuator from the stealership and installation was free since I work part time for the body shop.

Mike,

Those remotes look like antiques! I only have a 94 and they are sleeker. I think I remember my 91 sedan deville had them but they weren't that big.

Marika ,

glad you got it fixed, wierd how it jammed uplike that
