BodybyFisher
Its not even 10 years and its discontinued. They are making appliances now. And anyway, when TH have you ever heard of one of these going bad? 8 years old? How about other models that may have a compatible part? Cross reference? rockfangd
Wow. Did they break? Not a common issue at all on older ones but like everything else I am finding that the spring steel is rather weak over the last 10 years Quote GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
BUICK11
Did not break but would not pop open like it did in the past. they were adjusted to max. Not sure dealer was correct when said discontinued. but glad I found on e bay thanks Edited August 12, 2019 by BUICK11 BodybyFisher
BodybyFisher
If they are a problem, they shouldn't have been discontinued Quote Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BUICK11
One Caddy dealer told me GM has something called FPAC. This is a system that if the dealer is working on a car and the Tech is in need of a discontinued part the dealer can go into this FPAC system and provide the VIN number. Any dealer with that part on the shelf is required to ship it for next day delivery. Never heard of that. Not quite that desperate. Just trying the Platinum DTS number one shape as long as I can. Nothing on Parts Voice or Vintage NOS BodybyFisher

Let us know how this turns out. I recall years ago hearing that they produced replacement parts for 10 years. If they stop before that, the engineering details should be forwarded to the aftermarket players in order that these parts can be produced. I thought a 10 years limit was ridiculous. rockfangd
By chance do you have a spoiler? There is likely a temper issue with those springs. Just for the heck of it I would make sure they are installed correctly. I have had 2 cars that had this issue. my 94 olds Cutlass Supreme did this, it had the spoiler and luggage rack. My current 97 Seville does this as well. It has a 3 piece spoiler. I dont mind it though. It stays up great when it is lifted but it just does not spring up when popped Quote GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
