basod2002
I had a small drip of coolant the other day from driver side valence. I figured it was the water pump seal going and fished a SEESNAKE up in there to check before I started tearing into it. The inside of the volute is copletely dry around the shaft seal, and the coolant is leaking from the plate that bolts to the pump housing. I'm not sure if this is the suction plate or what? there's a ~2" hose leaving it going back towards the firewall. I couldn't find anything relating to this during a search and was wondering what plan of attack i should take. Should I add some sealing pellets to the coolant, operate the engine, and then replace the coolant. Or replace coolant and add the sealing tablets. Its due for a coolant change anyways. I'm hoping this may seal wherever the gasket is leaking and prevent changing the pump out. If the leak stop idea dosen't work then i'll look into a new gasket, and more than likely change the pump while I'm at it(with my luck it'll start leaking next month or two) Thanks for any insight
BodybyFisher
I think you are mistaken in your description. You say, there is a 2" hose going back toward the firewall?, If you are talking about the water pump cover there are two hoses a 2" hose that goes to the upper radiator connection and a 5/8 - 3/4" by-pass hose that goes back toward the firewall and attaches to the heater pipes that traverse the rear of the engine.. If your water pump cover is leaking, you need to replace the seal. The seal has been redesigned and if you don't have the new cover yet, you will need to buy a new cover to use the redesigned seal Here is a photo of the old and new covers Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
basod2002
I just got done reading your post from all the maintenance you performed a couple years ago. Maybe i missed the 5/8" hose with the seesnake. I guess the pump will be coming out, makes sense to replace it while I'm in there anyways right? Started my 2 week vacation today, looks like I will be adjusting my current work plan of painting the house, trimming out new windows, and consuming large qautities of fermeted beverages. Oh wait I can perform the last one, just with grease/grime on my hands instead of paint and sawdust all over my hands.

You dont need to replace the pump if its ok, just the cover and cover seal, if the cover is the old style Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
