Seanmannino
Good morning all from frozen Denver Colorado! I lead in like that because this morning it was a wee bit nippy outside I think around 18 F when i went out to start the Cadillac. Which leads me to my question since it was so cold out this morning the driver side door handle came right off in my hand. I have located a new one but am wondering if there are any codes or anything like that, that I will need when I install the new one this weekend? Is it an easy swap once you get the door panel off? The one that I am looking at getting is on rock auto but it is for an Olds Achieva (SHERMAN Part # 809135L {Primed #16619641, GM1310124}LH front outer door handle Achieva 92-98) in the parts list that I have the part number is 16619641 so I googled that this morning and found the above. Will this work for my car or shall I head over to Cadillac and buy it direct from them, or another option is the junk yard. There is one out there exactly like mine so I know the color will match lol. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. rockfangd
I would say yard or dealer only as anything aftermarket like that is junk. Being it is not a common problem i would try a yard GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile

Being it is not a common problem i would try a yard Pulled one from a 1996 and taking it to the paint shop this evening. The car that I wanted to get it off of was actually just used in the Monster truck rally here in Denver It would have matched perfectly but just a little too late lol. Thanks! PAUL T
Give a report on how hard the installation is. I have the same problem with my 97 Deville drivers door except only one side of the handle is broke. I do have a spare from a passenger door that I had repaired earlier. I was going to just use the handle part but I have not had time to put it in. I was concerned about the door airbags. It has been a pain to open the back door and reach over the seat to open the drivers door. Let us know how it goes and what to watch out for. Yup she's got air bags all the way around! lol Cadillac wanted us all to be safe back in 1997! Will have to see how long the paint shop has the handle for they say a couple days but who knows. I'll take detailed pics and post here when I do finally get down to the nitty gritty of it. Sean M. 1997 Cadillac DeVille

Seanmannino
Okay all, so I took the easy way out after looking around a bit more. The autobody place that I had paint the handle installed the handle too. I got a little too worried about the air bag in the door to ry and tackle this task by myself. So I have a new handle installed and it looks beautiful. I just can't take the credit for it. Anyhow back to bed to try and get rid of this cold Sean M. 1997 Cadillac DeVille
