Recommended Posts

well right in the middle of a 1000 mile road trip the sts just quit would crank but not start. no codes at all. so about 7 hrs later i picked the car up with a trailer and still no strat. i got the car trailered to a mechanic and the car started and drove off the trailer. runs fine and he cant find anything wrong with it, so i'm going to pick it up . any ideas to help me solve this problem? i was thinking fuel pump untill it restarted. all fuses are good. thanks in advance

On a 96 crank sensors should set a code, but if I recall, not always

I would put a fuel pressure gage on it to see what you get when you turn the key on, yes it could be a dead spot on the pump motor or a burned relay

Fuel pumps CAN be intermittent.

Ranger,

Do crankshaft sensors go bad on that model?

I don't know.

Anything is possible, but it was the 2000-2003 that was known for the CKP problems.
