Eldorado owners... we got a 'shout-out!'

Recommended Posts

I suppose it's just the lawyer in me, but I started going through some of the early filing and motions for the GM bankruptcy. In the first day motions, the Eldorado got mentioned within the first paragraph of the 'General Motors Business' clause! I'll quote it below to save everybody from trudging through the mindlessly boring filings...

For over one hundred years, GM, together with its approximately 463

direct and indirect wholly-owned subsidiaries (collectively, “General Motors” or the

“Company”), has been a major component of the U.S. manufacturing and industrial base, as well

as the market leader in the automotive industry. The Company’s brands have been the standard

bearer in the development of the American automotive industry, having produced some of the

most striking and memorable automotive designs, including: Corvette, Riviera, and Eldorado.

I never thought of a Riv as memorable, but they had their time a bit before I was driving (or born!).

Sad to see GM going through this, but I truly feel it was the best option. After all, bankruptcy is nothing more than the preferred method of 'refinancing for the 21st century!' B)

You can read the rest of the filing I quoted at

Or for all the other forms, filings, etc...

I hope it goes smooth and quickly for them!

I assume you are fairly young by this statement. I had a '69 Riv and it was memorable. Sleek, fast, comfortable. It was what led me to Cadillac. While I never liked the boat tails that followed, many did (They where like liver. You either loved them or hated them). Shortly after that they became forgettable.

Having ridden in them, worked on them, and actually seen them, the Riviera was one of the coolest looking cars. Jay Leno recently had a 500 HO engine put into one, it was a spaceage design. I love the boat tail design and would love to have one.

Please elaborate how its NOTHING to be proud of if you would!

This statement is certainly TRUE "having produced some of the most striking and memorable automotive designs, including: Corvette, Riviera, and Eldorado".

By the way, since you are an attorney, your statement, Sad to see GM go through this but its the best option, in my opinion NO ITS NOT THE BEST OPTION at all, the best option would be a TEXT BOOK BANKRUPTCY not a GOV involved bankruptcy where they catered to the UNIONS

Some gorgeous cars in the riv-forum gallery! I guess it's just one of those semi-rare cars I've never really experienced. Once in a while I'll see a late model (early 2000s?) and think 'wow, cool car!', but I never see the older ones around here. I stand corrected after taking a look... they're QUITE memorable and very beautiful!

I don't see how anything related to GM is going to be textbook, at this point. In my opinion, this is going to be a Ch.11 through some seriously uncharted territory. Between the .gov's involvement, the Unions, and the overall corporate structure of GM, this is the type of case that will be researched for decades after it's over, and probably still not understood.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know (or understand) the extent of the GM/Union relations, but it all sounds ugly, at best.

I would have liked to see GM divest themselves of the Union contracts that are choking them

Yikes Boston, I thought I was the only lawyer here.

I had a '67 Riviera GS - cherried out in gunmetal grey with black inside. It was a magnificent ride, until one of my X's got smashed and drove it into a hill . . .

The Eldorado was the standard for a long time - and I hope they bring it back. The CTS is a lovely car, but, kinda light in the loafers compared to the Eldorado. But then, the world has changed.

Mike, I agree with you about the unions - the world has changed, and the unions haven't quite digested that yet. But, political correctness is part of that change - so we get these weird results. It's sad for us who remember when things were more simple and direct, but, hopefully it'll all lead somewhere great!
