Northstar
I just bought a used A/C compressor on ebay for my 1996 STS, It doesn't appear to have any oil in it. Where do I put in the compressor oil and how much do I put in it? What kind of oil do I use.
BodybyFisher
I just bought a used A/C compressor on ebay for my 1996 STS, It doesn't appear to have any oil in it. Where do I put in the compressor oil and how much do I put in it? What kind of oil do I use. I did mine about 3 years ago, I used PAG 150 oil I put 2 oz oil in the compressor, 1 oz in condenser, 2 oz in evaporator and 3 oz in accumulator but I flushed my entire system as I had metal filings in my orifice tube. Go to www.acsource.com for parts, orings, oil, etc... Check your orifice tube for debris, if you have debris, flush the system and replace the condenser, you can not flush the condenser My name was Scotty back then here is my thread http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5846 Kevin is good with AC systems, I am sure he will stop by Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
KHE
You need to add the oil to the suction port of the compressor - where the line from the evaporator enters the compressor. You need to drain the oil from the compressor you are replacing and measure the quantity drained. I can't remember the procedure exactly without looking it up in the shop manual but it goes something like this: If the quantity of oil drained is less than 3 ounces, add one ounce plus the amount drained. If more than three ozs drained, add the same quantity to the new compressor. Since you're using a used compressor, you will probably need to add 2-3 ozs to the compressor. Out of curiousity, what failed on the original compressor? Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
Northstar
The bearing is going out on the original compressor so it's very noisy at the moment but the AC still functions. I tried to replace the bearing and was not able to remove the coil under the clutch so I thought I would just replace the whole compressor that I got off ebay for $
