5grmag
1997 Deville. Engine quits as if key turned off. If the front wire group connection on the drivers end of the coil pack base is disconnected and reconnected the car starts right up and may go 100 feet or 5,000 miles. Has done this maybe 200 times in 50,000 miles. I was disconnecting all four plug ins on the coil pack base until I discovered recently that only the front drivers side was necessary. Cadillac service people say this can't be happening. No codes showing. Think I'll find a base in a wrecking yard and see if that works. Any suggestions? Thanks. That base as your call it is the Ignition Control Module (ICM). They do go bad, mine was replaced before I bought my car. It is very important for all grounds to be connected. Not sure why disconnecting and connecting that wire makes a difference but it seems you found something. Check to make sure that wire has a VERY GOOD connection to the ICM, maybe the connection is intermittant, corroded or loose. One of the wires is a 12 volt supply, its possible that is the wire you are talking about. What color is that wire, ill look in my manual. adallak
Take the Ignition Cotrol Module to Advance Autoparts or Autozone. They have a tester and will test it for free. New one is about $20 (at least for my car). As BBF mentioned, the contacts may be loose or corroded. Use silicon lubricant for heat transfer when you install the new module. Mine came with lubricant in a package. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
