Good evening!!!!

Just some feedback on what you caddi drivers are using!

I am using Mobil 1 EP.....thinking of changing cause it goes BLACK within a few weeks...is this normal??

Change it every 10 000km...which is about every 4 months....

It is a common misconception that an oil’s color is an indication of how “dirty” it is. This is not true. It is often a common tactic used at quick lubes and service centers; the technician pulls the dipstick and wipes it on a white shop cloth and shows the customer how “black and dirty” it is. Any oil will turn black after a short period of use. Some oils may stay “clean” looking longer than others, but eventually they all will turn black. This is perfectly normal.

My oil of choice is the least expensive dino oil that meets the specification; [super Tech (Wal*Mart)] 10W-30 or 10W-40, depending on the season, changed when the OLM reaches 0%.

So far good enough for 178,xxx miles.

Perhaps a call to Blackstone Labs about the oil would be helpful. An analysis could give you a lot of information on how long to go between oil changes, whether the oil you are using is really good for your engine, etc.

I was using Rotella 15w40 in my 1997 Eldorado Touring Coupe, Vin 9, and loved it. Recommended was 10w30.

Changed every 3000 miles...

My last change in the Escalade I put in Synthetic Rotella 5w40, and that seems to be doing real well... 6.0 liter is recommended 5w30, though...

If you don't like how "black" the oil is, you might try buying the cheapest oil you can find (in the appropriate grade, of course), changing it every 1000 miles for 3000 miles, and then see how it goes....

I've had okay results doing that... my oil is darker brown after 3000, but nowhere near the "black" I see sometimes in other people's cars....

What kind of oil are you using Fisher?

Thanx for the answer on the colour.

Nick

I have a case half leak and low oil pressure at idle with 10W30, so I have switched to 15W40 by Delvac or Rotella. This also helps the NS engines with the rubbing element lifters to make up for the reduction of zinc that was instituted. I AM however a little concerned about cold weather starting with this oil and will keep my eye out. Currently I have a cold start knock that is obvious when cold and slightly there when warm/hot, it does not sound like the carbon knock it sounds like a main or rod bearing.

Have you considered changing it based on the Oil Life Monitor?

What type of a climate do you live in? I am thinking that 12,400 miles per year (20 km) per year might be too long to not change the oil, but I believe the Oil Life Monitor would tell you to change your oil based on your driving habits.. I would stick with the OLM

Train yourself to trust the Oil Life Monitor (OLM).

For a '98 Seville model, there is a brief description of the OLM on page 2-89 of the Owner's Manual.
