Wornslick
Hi, First post, glad to find this website. We just bought our second Cadillac last week. It is a 2006 DTS with 21,000 on it. I was looking around your website and read about the WOT and how you should do it once a week. I just went out and did it and I want to make sure I did it correctly. I was going down the on ramp and shifted the car into the number 2 on the shift display. When the car reached 55 I floored it and took the tach to 6000 RPM and had reached 85 MPH. The car shifted into the next gear and I let off the gas, when I reached a certain speed the car downshifted again. I did the above 2 times and I seen no smoke at all. I hope I did it right. Thanks for the great site. I know I will learn alot here. Wornslick

If no one posts the proper WOT procedure, Ill do it later, I need to get moving here... JimD
....When the car reached 55 I floored it and took the tach to 6000 RPM and had reached 85 MPH. The car shifted into the next gear and I let off the gas, when I reached a certain speed the car downshifted again. I would make a couple of method changes. One - go WOT at a speed closer to 40 - 45 MPH. Two - learn to get off the throttle just before the PCM upshifts you to 3rd gear. You really want the compression braking that comes with staying in 2nd gear. No cloud in the mirror is good news. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! Now if I did it correctly is what I need to find out, and by reading your replys I did not. I hope that I did not harm the car. Wife will kill me. LOL Wornslick Ah, I see, hmm, I posted that, those are the guru's words. but as Jim said, you don't want to force it to shift at 6000 rpm, the deceleration is good it creates negative pressure or a vacuum in the combustion chamber and sucked carbon out of the chamber. Good for you.. Ranger
It also causes ring flutter which keeps the rings free and loosens any carbon that may have built up.
Wornslick
Thanks for all the advice. I will try the WOT again on my next day off. Not trying to ruffle any feathers here, just trying to learn.
Texas Jim
Here is where I read about WOT......... http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=19328 Third post down. Now if I did it correctly is what I need to find out, and by reading your replys I did not. I hope that I did not harm the car. Wife will kill me. LOL Wornslick I too have a 2006 DTS. It is the Perfomance Sedan model. This one is my second 2006. The first one burned in my garage fire. It has almost 50,000 miles on it in less than two years. It gets regular WOT's. I have never had to add any oil to it between changes. YET. I love the sound of the NorthStar winding up. It has never been abused. I maintain it religously, but I do DRIVE it. I will admit I am guilty of sometimes not doing WOT's EXACTLY the way the Garu said, but I DO follow his advice at the end of the article. (Quoted below) "The biggest single problem that many issues stem from is lack of use at full throttle by the owners. It just doesn't like to be babied around" "A bit of judicious use of the other end of the throttle travel is a GOOD thing... " As for your concern of hurting the car, I doubt that you hurt it at all. It seems to me that it would be hard to actually HURT the engine or transmission, (unless you did it every day) as the onboard computers will FORCE it to upshift to the next gear as you hit MAX RPM thus preventing any overspeed condition of the engine. I am generalizing, but most people with a big Cadillac just ease around town in them. They probably NEVER give them more than 1/4 throttle. The car never actually get DRIVEN. On another forum I frequent, I read about their Cadillacs that have never been above 70/75 mph, even on the open highway. As you found out, the Cadillac will do 80+ IN SECOND GEAR. It will hit the top speed limiter in a matter of just a few seconds, and still be in THIRD GEAR Not that I have ever actually done THAT and I DO NOT advocate ANYONE doing it... but... never the less...it will. There is no place in the US, on public highway, that I am aware of, where you can do that legally and I don't advocate needless speeding and/or reckless driving. PS. No speed limits were harmed in the writing of this article.

I don't think I hurt it either. I was close to 6000 RPM and was ready to let off the gas when the car shifted. Thats (the shifting) is what caused me to think that I did not do the WOT correctly because I didn't read anything about a shifting of gears in BodyByFishers post. I was not even thinking about taking the RPM's to the red line. I am going to do the WOT once a week as adviced. This is the wifes car and she doesn't even know the car has a passing gear. It will be babied by her, just like the last Caddy. LOL Thanks again.
BodybyFisher
You are not really consuming oil but I will post the correct procedure later, doing it monthly will help your engine to be healthy. Texas Jim
I agree with Body by Fisher...I doubt that you need to do it weekly. Monthly would probably be more than enough. Give yourself something to look forward to once a month... the PUSH back in the seat as you stand on it... and the nice NorthStar sound as it winds up. Wornslick
Took the wifes Caddy out today and did the WOT. I learned to let off the gas around 5500 RPM in order to get the results I am looking for. That car REALLY runs good!!!!! Thanks for the advice, can't wait for next months WOT.
