hey mike i was just reading your post on your radio system you installed and had a few questions. how did the steering wheel controls turn out? also i am thinking about replacing my whole system in my sts.. im an audiophile and the bose system is good but doesnt have the power i like. At first i was thinking about replacing just hte speakers, but then i read a post stating that the amps on the speakers dont send out enough power to do so... So do you think it would be a big problem just replacing everything... HU, tweeters in dash(im sure will be a pain to replace), rear door speakers and sub, and add my own amp? also are there going to be any codes that i will experience, i saw where someone was saying that you shoulds keep the head unit connected to prevent codes.. is this the same with the 00' sts?

Dana, I never made the change, the head unit I purchased off of craigslist was defective meaning I got screwed buying it.. My system had a standard sound system and it was easy to change the speakers. The fronts are separate tweeters and bass units and the stock rear was a 6x9 with a paper wizzer, so so when they were NEW... I put cerwin vera separates in the front and 6x9 3 ways in the rear and it sounds much better, but a new head unit would open them up the OEM head unit has no highs and a muddy bass.

Bose speakers are much more difficult to upgrade UNLESS you rip the entire system out and start over with a high power CD head unit, with BLUE tooth, Sat Radio, IPOD and AUX connectors, and a three channel AMP for the rear and a trunk mounted sub. That is what I want, all types of communication, even NAV/DVD, if I can get it in the same package

This NAV receiver is hot

By the way, I think the unit operates by voice, so if you are not able to get your steering wheel controls working you can speak your commands.... yea baby, I am going to feel like JAMES T KIRK... LOL... Computer, volume UP...

I just noticed this by the way

compatible with most factory steering wheel audio controls (adapter required)

CEA-2006 compliant

OH YEA....

I can't speak about the '01 STS, but the young fellow who recently purchased my '98 Eldorado insisted on having an after market iPod capable radio and enjoyed incompatibility problems. On occasion the horns would sound endlessly; other problems as well, but memory fails me. He actually installed a quick battery disconnect as a workaround for RESET purposes!

The "Professional Installer" involved assured him an after market "module" would keep the computer fat, dumb and happy. Alas, NOT.

The Installer's final solution was to mount and connect the OEM radio in the trunk. The computer is now corpulent, dopey and full of cheer.

Gotta be a better way.

Regards,

Warren

Dana I don't know much about the Bose system, especially in your year. Did you buy a FSM?, if you did, I think the Stereo is covered in it..

nope.. but i need to get around to getting one. Im just thinking, because i know the speaker is inclosed in a bose speaker housing with the amp and everything.. i dont know if mounting an aftermarket speaker to the bose housing be good as far as sound factor... might not make a difference.

Are you 120% sure about the amplifier part of that statement?

I ask because my '98 Seville and '04 Deville both have the Bose headunit and speakers. The audio amplifier for each speaker is contained in one multi-channel box located behind the rear seat back.

im not sure, i read that in another post, but that was for an older model.. so they could have changed it.. but the amp isnt the problem.. im trying to figure out if the aftermarket speakers could go directly into the bose speaker housing, or did they not have them in the newer models? i know my 95 sts had the bose speaker housing.

OK. GM and Bose reserve the right to make changes so anything I tell you about my '98 model might not apply to your 2000 model.

Very easy to pull the door panel and see what you will be dealing with.

Dana, removing the door panel is not hard but you should have the FSM directions to help you so that you don't damage any retainers. See if someone will post the procedure for the 2000 for removing the door panel. I assume the door panel needs to be removed to get to that speaker but I might be wrong.

it does need to be removed... and just found a post with the instructions to remove the panel for a deville 01'.. it seems to be the same as the sts.. plus the thread was for an sts. i need to get my own FSM.. where is the best place to get one?

Front door trim panel removal; '98 Seville ('98 to '04 will be similar)

There are four screws;

One at the bottom rear corner.

One behind a plastic trim piece behind the door-open handle.

Two behind the leather trim behind the door-close grip (velcro holds the leather in place).

To remove the inner cover, push in the center of the plastic fasteners.

I am laughing. - you guys kinda hijacked this post. it's about a CD changer not opening, and it turned into a BOSE radio replacement post.

For the CD changer,

1) Make sure you are opening the door all the way then wait for the cartridge to eject

2) I'd disconnect the connector leading to the unit, & reconnect

3) you may have to disassemble the changer, as a disk might be stuck. I believe someone recently had a post on this too recently.

4) is the disk stack blinking on your radio? - there might be a code you can get off the DIC (off & warmer method)

Good luck

Since the original poster is still actively asking questions, maybe "hijacked this post" is a little severe. Laugh on.

That button sequence does not apply to 1998 through 2004 Seville models.
