caddypete
Glad to hear you found the problem. Now I will have to go buy a coil pack and see if that is my problem. I did clean my MAF sensor and gained a 1.2 mpg but still a random miss
BodybyFisher
Mike I received your coil yesterday, thanks. See the results of my resistence readings here, it was definately a bad coil, Mike http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=16967 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Logan
Back in my day of vehicle diagnostics. Had a great tool that could find bad wires and coil packs. Still have it.. One way to test: Move the coil pack. Fast and simple. If the problem moves..you've found the problem. The AutoZone coils are so cheap..Maybe $25. Anyway for the tool. Clip the green wire onto the spark plug wire and 'see' the KV voltage. $150 tool. Great time saver. MIke D
Mike I received your coil yesterday, thanks. See the results of my resistence readings here, it was definately a bad coil, Mike http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=16967 Mike, Thanks for the info.. Sure am glad it fixed it AND you got to play. Now my next task is figure out why my right front door speaker is not working and why some days it sounds like my left front door speaker is blown and somedays it's fine... I believe the movie (and book) "the never ending story" relats to me and my car problems. It's good though. gives me something to do after getting my hernia repaired tuesday. out of work for 4-6 weeks. I hope I still know how to fly when I get back! HA! Thanks again, Mike D Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
MIke D
Well I figured out what was wrong with my speakers... It was my speakers, Fried! NOW my miss is back again. I thought the coil fixed it but NO!!!!!!! Had surgery last tuesday. The car sat till sunday. First start and it's running rough like it did before the coil was replaced. Drove it 5 miles to have lunch with my lady and it never cleared up on the drive. Let it sit the 30 min while we ate, came back out and the car ran fine.... Hmmmm.... So I drove it monday and the car was fine all day untill last night. It came back and has been doing it all day today too. I have a mulit meter and will be pulling the coil's and will check the resistance. Unfortunatly the car is warm so I cant get to the plugs till tomorrow. I wounder if # 1 and #4 are bad again.... Any other idea's what I should check??? Thanks again, Mike D BTW I'm out of work for the next 4-6 weeks so you will be seing me a lot on here.... Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
MIke D
Well I figured out how to use my multi meter! I had it on the wrong scale for measuring resistance... DOH! My results. Coil pack #6 & 7 was 5.6 ohms Coil pack #1 & 4 (my new one) was 5.8 ohms Coil pack #3 & 8 was ZERO Coil pack #2 & 5 was 5.6 ohms So it was another bad coil... Lets keep our fingers crossed that the others don't fail.... Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it! 93 STS 225,000 Miles 99 STS 111,000 Miles
BodybyFisher
Nice Mike! Did you replace it? Very ODD that you would get two coils going bad. JimD
If that is measured at the plug wire towers, I would expect the resistance to be 5.6K Ohms and 5.8K Ohms. That would be 5,600 and 5,800 Ohms. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
