ted tcb
I noticed this Prius on Ebay Canada, for sale but not driveable. Part of the hybrid powertrain has broken, and the new part is $4500 for the HV transaxle, $4600 for the inverter, plus $2500 for labour. That's $11,600 to make her roadworthy! So much for saving a few pennies at the gas pump! Ranger
I have always said, wait till the batteries start to go. Guess they are coming home to roost now. He may as well turn it into a planter.
Cadillac Jim
The batteries are about $2500 and usually last well over six years, regardless of the FUD I have seen in print recently. I researched that and other issues for a friend with a 2001 Prius who was afraid of maintenance on her old car and after I looked at everthing I could find online, I advised her to keep it, and just buy the battery when she needed one. The problem is that this was once a rental car in Canada. We all know that treatment of rental cars by clients and rental car maintenance procedures are almost a guarantee of driveline and other failures that would be peculiar for owner-driven cars. In most states in the USA, a car or truck title must state whether it was ever a rental, fleet, police, or taxi vehicle, and such cars are worth next to nothing regardless of mileage or age. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. ted tcb
Still, if the Prius owner had bought a used "rental" Corolla or Camry, they could pick up a used transmission for peanuts just about anywhere. To be first on the block with new technology is always going to cost you when that technology fails. 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
JasonA
It's always a fine line between the "cutting edge" of technology and the "bleeding edge". You always want to try to stay on the good side of that line. Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?"
