afotia
I have a '96 STS with 120,000 miles. The transmission went from working perfect to undrivable in three days. Now if you start it, it will go into gear and drive while cold but as the car warms up it slips more and more until the car stops. At this point I'm unable to shift back into park until it cools down. I've spoken briefly to a Cadilac mechanic with 12 years experience and he believes that I probably don't need a transmission. He mentioned a relay or switch of some sort that's easy to change and relatively inexpensive. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Did your Cadillac mechanic with 12 years of experience pull the codes? Post them here and we will help you with them. Wow, I just realized that I have 41 years of Cadillac experience... afotia
GO West Young Man! No, the mechanic didn't have a chance to check anything. We at a neighbor's party, shortly after I left town on work for a few months and when I returned I discovered the young man had moved to a different state to open his own shop. And, yes he did mention the name of the switch, AND no I wasn't bright enough to write it down. Thanks, Adallak. Is the 'slipping enable relay' the probable culprit? And if so, if I do a code check, will there be one for it? Thanks everyone.
rmac-etc
Thanks, Adallak. Is the 'slipping enable relay' the probable culprit? And if so, if I do a code check, will there be one for it? Thanks everyone. can't stand it ... new member and all we do is joke around. Afotia, don't trust any answer that's posted within 12 hours +- of cocktail hour. First step, the codes. write 'em down and post them and one of these jokers will help out. If you don't know how to get them refer to this page: http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html
