llewis
Have a service engine test light on, went to auto zone for code reading was told it read P1406 which said to check out the EGR valve, also was told to replace gas cap which I did and light went out immediatly but a few minutes it came right back on. Does any one know where EGR valve that lets unburned gas fume go back to gas tank is located. Also how big a deal is it to replace, Thanks LLewis

Under certain conditions the EGR valve lets exhaust gases into combustion chumber to cool the mix down and decrease pollution. Ranger
You are a bit confused. The EGR routes exhaust gasses back to the intake to be burned. It does not dump exhaust gasses into the fuel tank. Gas fumes from the tank are infact burned via the EVAP system which is controled by an EVAP solenoid & purge valve. I think you have the two systems confused. The DTC (P1406) is indeed for the EGR valve. It is located between the TB & the master cylinder. BTW, you need not go to AutoZone to get the DTC's pulled. You can do it by yourself by simultaniously pressing and holding the OFF & PASSENGER WARMER buttons.
