Dirtybird_31
Hey everyone, I am new to this site...As I am a new owner of a 92 Eldo. I just purchased the car about a week ago, and I'm starting to do some tinkering with it. First of all, I ran the diagnostic test, and got the following codes E021C-Shorted TPS signal E052H-PCM Memory reset I052H-IPC loss of memory R033H-******Unknown****** I was wondering what effect these codes have on me. I've noticed that when driving, my car doesn't want to shift gears til it gets around 3800-4000 rpms. It shifts smooth when it gets there, but thats way to much rpm's to hit before it shifts. And of course, my gas mileage is very crappy. I'm guessing this is related to the TPS signal? Is my estimation correct? Does this mean I should replace my TPS, or is this some other electrical problem? Also, the loss of memory code kind of scares me, but I see its in the history so I wasn't sure if i should be worried or not. All info and help is greatly apprieciated. Bruce Nunnally
TPS is throttle position sensor. It is a small and fairly inexpensive sensor on the throttle body that the computer uses to know how far the throttle is open. KevinW
The throttle position input is extremely important for determining shift points since the transaxle is controled by the PCM (for 1992). The short circuit could be in the sensor or the wiring; there's a slight chance of a PCM hardware problem. Try unplugging the sensor, clear the codes, then see which ones appear. ___________________________________________________
adallak
yep, looks llike a small sensor/wiring problem. perhaps the reason the car was sold is that the former owner was sure something wrong with tranny... Dirtybird_31
Well, since I've had about 5 different people tell me that it's probably a TPS sensor, or wiring short. I will work on that part first. I thought that all along, but I'm not the most engine sophisticated person. I'm all good on custom interior and audio work, but still learning the basics of engine stuff. I did kinda wonder why the guy was letting this car go for 2,500 in the first place. He tried to "talk down" the shifting problem, but I chalked it up from the beginning to some throttle sensor. Let's all pray I'm right. Since if I'm not, the wife will be telling me, "I told you not to buy that mafia car." Life's like that, ain't it???? Also, does anyone know what the following codes mean, or the significance they may have???? E052H-PCM Memory reset I052H-IPC loss of memory R033H-******Unknown****** Thanks
adallak
i would first address TPS issue, then clean all the codes. chances are they will not come up again. good luck. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

KenD
Joe, I believe you are correct. I replaced my battery and then ran the codes and the IO52 came up as a history code. 1994 STS Pearl White 260,000 KM (163,000 miles) <img src="http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v137/caesar/caddycaesar.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" />
