kad3338
When running the a/c on my 1996 STS, the two front drivers vents & rear vent blows hot air while the two passengers front vents blow ice cold. That happened the last two mornings when it was about 75 degrees out. On the way home it was 90 and all of the vents blew cold as normal. Is there some sort or temp switch for the drivers side or could a mix door be stuck? The passenger side has it's own temp switch that works ok, it's just on the drivers side that's acting up. CoupeDTS
I had the same problem and many people I know. I believe its one of the first things I learned on this site that one of the first signs of low freon is cold on one side and hot on the other. I charge the system and everythings cold. * 1966 Deville Convertible * 2007 Escalade ESV Black on Black * 1996 Fleetwood Brougham Black on Black V4P -Gone* 1983 Coupe Deville Street/Show Lowrider -Gone* 1970 Calais 4dr Hardtop GONE* 2000 Deville DTS - Silver with Black Leather and SE grille GONE* 1999 Seville STS - Pearl Red GONE
Ranger
Yup, it needs a refrigerant top off.
kad3338
Topped freon off and there's no change, still blows warm on driver side. I'll check the mix door actuators & pull codes next. Since the car has a separate temp control for passenger, I was thinking there'd be a sensor inside that might have gone.

BodybyFisher
I'm getting a code for door mix actuator. Anyone know how to replace this on a 1996 STS? What code is it? If you have dual heating there are two actuators. Its probably the drivers actuator. Ill pull the manual out and take a look Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
KHE
Very easy job - one of the actuators is behind the glove box and the other is below it above the passenger side kick panel. The code will identify the actuator that is causing the issue so you'll need to post the code. Once the actuator is replaced, there is a procedure for calibrating/synchronizing it. The dealer will have the actuator or you can get it much cheaper at a junkyard. I'm getting codes AC1340 & AC1341 so looks like I'll be replacing both of these (this winter the passenger side would blow cold so opposite of what I have now). mike5514
Check for a bad vacuum hose located in the engine compartment in board of pass. shock tower mount near the firewall its 5/32 id and about 4in long. Mike
KHE
The actuators are electrically controlled. The vacuum would control wether the air comes out the defrost vents or the dash vents. mike5514
KHE I was surprised when I replaced my vacuum hose that it solved my heater door problem and also turned off my ses light. I was having the same problem, heat from one side cold on the other etc. I replaced the vacuum line because it was weak not intending to solve a problem. To have my ses light go out was a added bonus. Cant explain what happen but the doors do not hunt any more and the ses is still out. My car is a 97sls. bwac
Hi there I have a 2000 eldorado and had the same problem. My fix was easy, maybe this will help someone. in the glove box there is a cover on the back, remove the cover and there is a metal arm that moves the mixer doors. my arm was off, (maybe hit a bump or something don't know why but it was off!) it hooked on to a hole in a plastic piece and the plastic was broke so arm would not stay in the hole. I got a plastic tye pull and rigged the arn to stay in place. it worked! sorry I don't know the parts name etc but if you look to the back of your glove box you should see a cover that will just pop off with a flat head screw driver and you will be able to see the arm and if you feel to the left you will feel the thing that it moves (door) and you should be able to figure it out! I did and I am not a mechanic just a girl!!
