chazglenn3
Has anyone had any success getting this code to go away by cleaning the EGR valve? I have read that it has gone away for a while and come back, but before I bothered to clean the valve I thought I would check to see it someone actually had to code stay gone. Thanks! Charles Yep, it comes on every 20,000 miles or so. Just clean it and forget about it. 3 10mm Bolts (2 bolts, 1 nut) and it takes all of 20 mins. DO NOT CLEAN THE SHAFT WITH THE VALVE UPSIDE-DOWN !!!! Use an old toothbrush and clean it without letting liquid get into the EGR Valve.

chazglenn3
Aaarrggghhh! While putting the EGR valve back on the car, I dropped one of the bolts and it fell in an area that I can't see. Tried feeling around with a magnetic pickup, but no luck. I went to the store and bought a regular bolt and washer. The local Caddy dealer doesn't have one, and if he did the stupid thing was over $7.00!!! Hope it falls out when I back out of the garage. Good thing the 99 model didn't use the top half to hold a bracket like my 96 did, even though it was the same double sided bolt. Ranger
It is amazing how those little buggers can do a disappearing act. I once dropped a distributor hold down nut down the distrubutor hole. After fishing for a hour or two, I heard it hit the oil pan (inside). That is where it stayed.
chazglenn3
On a positive note, on my way in to work this morning (complete with mandatory WOT blast onto the freeway), there was no appearance of the SES light. The EGR valve was caked up pretty good with carbon, so it should be good for a while. Charles Charles
BodybyFisher
Nice Charles glad you fixed it. I dropped one of the nuts for the water pump belt cover, very annoying when they disappear.
