bigjayzway
Okay, I can't figure it out! I am stumped!? I have a slight hesitation in acceleration in the 98 sts. It almost feels like there is one plug missing slightly. If I really give it gas, it seems to be more prominant. On regular acceleration, it seems like I have to put the pedal down a little further than normal. I have checked all the plugs and wires, but they are all looking good. I ran different gas, and still doing it? I have checked everything I could think of. Does anyone have any suggestions? Big Jay Life is too short to grow up! JimD
If you are happy with the condition of the plug wires and the plugs, have someone you trust powerbrake the engine while you put a stethoscope on each of the 4 coils. You will be listening for any internal arcing. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
jhall
Checked the throttle body lately? Might have some build-up. Mine had a similar hesitation.
bigjayzway
Checked the throttle body lately? Might have some build-up. Mine had a similar hesitation. No I have not yet. What is this procedure? Big Jay If you are happy with the condition of the plug wires and the plugs, have someone you trust powerbrake the engine while you put a stethoscope on each of the 4 coils. You will be listening for any internal arcing. Jim I should probably try this for sure. I just got the car back. The wife was involved in a head on collision, and its been doing it since I got it back. She isgetting better too.(the wife) It gave her some back problems. The car got $6000.00 worth of work. They say there is no way the accident could affect the performance of the engine????!!! Life is too short to grow up!

mikeal1892
It could be from dry gas from where it sat. Its prolley just a mis fire issue related to the gas . I have been having lots of issues with gas. Im going to replace my plugs this week though. Its always something ! Michael
BodybyFisher
Check for cracked plug or missing pads, look closely. Use an ohm meter and test each wire, maybe when the work was done a wire was damaged. Clean the battery cables at the battery especially the positive cable, take it apart at the insulator. bigjayzway
I am being told it might be the fuel filter. I have my fingers crossed!? Jay Life is too short to grow up!
bigjayzway
NOPE!!! Not the fuel filter! Now what? Jay Life is too short to grow up!
caddypete
Getting in a head on collision can't effect the engine performance? OK if they say so.Check your air cleaner and connections and housings for cracks there maybe unmetered air getting in which would cause a temporary lean condition,But then again how would a head on collision crack plastic housings. BodybyFisher
What have you done so far. Have you checked each wire? You said you had a front end collision. I gather that you did not have this hesitation before the accident. Consider that a ground has been compromised or not replaced. The RF fender area has an array of grounds. In addition, the LF has the relay, power and fuse area and PCM, think about something being wrong along those lines, a bad connection, bad ground or bad PCM. bigjayzway
I didn't get a photo. The collision only caused the drivers side to be crunched. There was no damage past the front bumper reinforcement. I have checked all the wires, the plugs, and changed the fuel filter. I just checked all the wires for ground issues today, and found no problems there. A lot of guys are saying it could be a fuel pressure problem, but I have not had the chance to get that checked. Thanks for the reply Mike. Jay Life is too short to grow up!

BodybyFisher
OK, consider that the impact damaged the PCM. Also check the PCM connections. My PCM is in the air filter airflow behind the headlights. BodybyFisher
It is also possible that when the car was damaged that it sat and rain water got into the relay/fuse area and corroded connections. That was the reason I asked for a photo to see how bad the collision was and to see if water could have soaked the area. I can't help but think that your problem is originating from the area behind the headlights..
