97 sts. quote from dealer! pressure tested system found will not hold pressure, has coolant leak out the engine area! does this absolutely mean a head gasket? or possible just the water pump or anywhere else. they quoted me 1500 for the repair and told me it was a common gast reseal kit. chevy dealer (non cadillac) thanks

$1500 seems cheap for a head gasket unless its the front bank and they do it while the engine is in the car and they don't plan to time sert it. (then its a lot). Both heads should be done at the same time by the way if a head gasket is done, if one went bad the other is surely not far behind.

I would ask them to specifically tell you what is wrong, maybe they are referring to the coolant crossover.

If they do the head gasket, the block MUST be timeserted NOT helicoiled...

Relax, a failed head gasket would leak into the engine not out. Whatever it is (except head gasket) $1500 seems unreasonable.

yes 1500 for the head gasket does not seem right. after going back a few posts i found some info on the crossover issue. and have come up with a few scenarios. anyhow this is my caddy project car that i bought 6 mts ago and has been sitting in my garage since. i have never heard it run due to a cracked flexplate, after some research on this car and tracking down the owner i found out the tranny had been replaced and assume the bolts were not torqued correctly and the flywheel cracked, the dilemma is to pay 1k for the flex plate and find out the head gaskets are shot, or just a crossover or hoses?
