Monaco500
Well, It appears I need to replace the pigtail connectors to my taillights in my STS to solve my turn signal woes. Is GMpartsdirect.com the best place to buy them, or are there cheaper sites? I understand I need six of them. Thanks guys, Eric
BodybyFisher
Those sockets are expensive. I just looked at www.rockauto.com and the AC Delco socket is $25.79! Here is the description AC Delco Part # LS44 Socket, T/LP w/o Tail & S/LP (T89) or Special Tail and S/LP (T93) 2 way Female Grey #12141388 $25.79 Whatever you do, solder, heat shrink and tape the joints. Use dilectic grease on the base of the bulb Here is a photo Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
sonjaab
MONACO..........Ya might wanna check your local big box parts store. Some carry that "HELP" brand of misc. little stuff for most cars........... ie: sockets, brake pedal covers, power steering caps, etc...etc.... They might have some kind of "knockoff" GM socket that would work. YEOW..........$26 bucks EACH?.........................geo 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
Spurlee
There's not really anything to break in these guys - they typically suffer from corrosion and heat/cold expansion wich interrupts the connnection. Way before I'd pay 25 bucks I'd pull the bulbs and clean them good with an electrical contact cleaner spray and also clean the socket. Use a little emery paper to clean the connections inside the socket and make sure the wire sonnections to them are 100%. Gently pry up the wires on the bulb to ensure good contact and give them a once over with the emery paper. Coat with diaelectric grease and you're ready to go. It's surprising how little it takes to break contact, especially if there's been corrosion beforehand. BodybyFisher
I don't necessarily agree. Since I have owned my De ville, about 3 years, my LR turn signal blows every 2 to 3 months on que. None of my other bulbs blows like that. While it not a BIG deal to change it, its annoying and usually takes about 2 days before I remember to change it. Its blown as we speak. It creates lane change problems as I don't have a signal. When I inspect the bad bulb, the filament is fine, but the two <lead> solder connectors on the bottom are deformed and melted. I believe that the spring connection looses it strength and the increases electrical resistance in the connection (as a result) causes heat, that melts the solder eventually causing a disconnect. In the beginning of the 'disconnect' the <fast turn signal/light out> will be intermittent, then eventually its OUT for good (its intermittent for about 2 days then out for good)... I plan to change mine ASAP... 93STSpieceofcrapmoneypit
Try eBay. I replaced (4) sockets, felt triumphant, then figured out one of my reverse lights were blown. DOH! Those little harnesses are around for cheap on eBay. With your user name being what it is I'd have to be hard pressed. I, however, do find it entertaining. The definition of an enthusiast is "a person filled with enthusiasm" or " one who is ardently attached to a cause, object, or pursuit." Then there is my personal favorite "one who tends to become ardently absorbed in an interest." I would call the last one fanatic, bordering on unhealthy. I think I'd rather be an enthusiast as opposed to a fanatic. CADS RULE DUDES! Alright Alright Alright...
