Hello all,

I posted last march with a PO741 ,1860 code on my car. I carried it to my dealer and my warranty company put a new transmission in,55,000 mi. Everything was lovely untill two days ago and it threw the codes again. It has been 9 mos. and less than 10,000 mi. Is this an ongoing problem with this particular model/trans. or is it just a black cloud over me?Had the car four years with no other trouble other than this, but twice in less than a year doesn't seem right. Any ideas or suggestions? She wants to take it back, get it fixed and keep it, but I dont want it to be a regular occurrence. <_<

These transmissions are bullet proof and you can't kill them. How do you know it was a new transmission and not a rebuilt transmission?

P0741 is TCC System Stuck Off

P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Electrical

This sounds like a very simple problem these two codes are related and its probably a bad connection. What are the symptoms, you didn't say? Is it not going into overdrive?

We drove last weekend to Pensacola,Fla and came back home. The car sat for one day,she went to town and called me to say it had the SES light on and when she came home I checked the codes and that was what came up. I drove it and it is shifting normally, and it is going into overdrive, the rpm's are around 15-1700 at 55mph. There is no surging at cruise as it was the first time. You could feel it bumping when it shifted to overdrive.I was wondering the same as you.It was not a new transmission, but a rebuilt one the warranty company sent to put in.It has performed well untill now with the new codes. If the SES light had not come on,you couldn't tell anything was abnormal. We do live on a dirt road and possibly it has jarred the connection and might have let dirt in,I don't know. Thats why I was inquiring if this is a problem others have posted about.

You might want to check the TCC operation by maintaining constant 55 MPH with your right foot on gas pedal and slightly touching the brake pedal with left foot (just enough to engage the brake switch). Have RPM on your driver info. center. If RPMs jump some 150-200 RPM when you press the brake pedal, your TCC is fine.

The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

By the way, while I was taking a shower I was thinking about your problem. Was the code current or history? Is it possible that you got an intermittant code that is now in history and you are observing the TCC working OK now?...

The TCC stuck off would not allow you to run 1500 RPM at 55, I don't believe, but I may be wrong. It sounds like it is working and maybe you have a history code?

No it was current,I have reset it several times . Thats what baffled me,the trans seems fine and functioning correctly ,good smooth shift points. The code stays off after resetting until ign. is turned off and restart and a mile down the road it triggers again, like I say,if you cover the light, you wouldn't suspect a thing.

Hey Mario,

I will know something this week. I currently have the car at the transmission shop now.The owner says he is seeing a pile of 741 and 1860 codes on caddys and aurora. He is doing the upgrade on the valvebody passage and the upper plate. The 4T80E is the most problematic.GM knows there is a problem and he is applying the upgrades .The only holdup is he can repair in car if the clutch is not damaged in the torqu converter due to this condition,if so the tranny has to be pulled and rebuilt. In any case, either way he said he has had 100% fix rate with the upgrade. My warranty company has to eat this one since the transmission they sent to be put in was not upgraded. If it had not origionally thrown the code and the SES light had not come on,my wife would have not known the difference. The shifting seems normal except the converter is not locking up. I'll keep you posted on the outcome. I should know something this week.

Alan
