A/C Shutting Engine Off!!!

Recommended Posts

It was 90 Degrees yesterday and all of a sudden my engine shuts off while i was driving  I started the car again and turned on the A/C and it make a loud noise and the engine shut off!!! It will run without the A/C but as soon as I push the A/C button my engine shuts off... What can cause this to happen?? Has anyone had this problem??

It sounds like the compressor is siezed up - when the compressor clutch engages, the belt slips. Remove the accessory belt and attempt to turn the clutch by hand - I bet you won't be able to turn it.

Yeah....bad AC compressor.....couple months ago. A family friend had a no start Ford truck. I dont know anything about Fords but offered to take a look.

The AC was locked. Enough so that the engine could not turn over at all.

You should inspect the belt ASAP - I am surprised it didn't get ripped to shreds....
