sprucegoose
Fixed up the exhaust last night. Put a new 2 1/2" pipe section in where it had flattened it in the accident. Purrs like a kitten again, and roars like a lion at WOT! I took it out for a test run and then washed it up. Gettting it ready to sell. Posted it on the F/S board just now. Man, it is tough accepting the fact that this car has to go, I loved it so much. What a dependable ride, and a fantastic mix of power, economy and style! Daily driver now is my 96 Grand Prix, and it isn't half the car that the Sprucegoose was. Hope to sell it this way to avoid the hassle of parting it out. I'm sure I could get much more for it that way, but don't want all that hassle right now. Going to our local car cruise tonight with it, for sale sign in hand. Plenty of gear heads there that may like a project. N* Fiero bound maybe?! '09 Cadillac CTS-4 3.6 direct injection, 128 K mi. sprucegoose
Spruce, Did they ever catch the low life creep that hit the Goose? Britt Nope... no such luck. Spent plenty of personal time scouring the area and posting reward flyers, but no calls or sightings. I did find 4 similar color/year Escort wagons within a 2 mi. area or so, but none that showed any signs of damage or repair in the front end... Every time I see one it raises my blood pressure! sprucegoose
Pretty good turn-out at the cruise last night, considering it was the first of the season. Walking around the place, talking to the car owners, smelling the high-octane exhaust, listening to the rumbles (and roars) of the cars was really fun. Makes me wish I was more into something in that line of work for a career... I had to leave for my kid's soccer game, but left the Eldo parked there with the hood open and the for sale sign pinned to it. Plenty of interest in it, as there was a crowd of 6-8 people around it when I returned! Once they realized it was mine they were firing questions away, asking me to start her up, and wanting to know how the *^$! I managed to mangle that drivers door so badly! The initial firing up of the Northstar and the sound of the Dynomax exhaust only drew more attention and soon many of the onlookers were jotting down the specs and phone numbers (I'm sure to call there local bodyman and ask "how much to fix this thing!"). No offers yet, but I had a price of $1,600 or best offer listed on the tag. At the close of the eve the ritual is the troops standing near the exit chanting to those leaving to "show us what it's got!" There were some pretty impressive launches, the best I saw was the '69 Chevelle pro-street that litterally rocketed away in a shot that would make any drag racer proud! As I was pulling out of my spot one of the interested parties said "can this thing light 'em up?" And I casually replied "well, I could try", as I reached for the buttons to disable the traction control with a grin on my face... I slowly pulled out to the road and once she was straight I mashed the gas pedal. Instantly the tires were smoking away and I stayed into it long enough to slip the shifter up into 2nd and to produce a pretty good cloud and for the onlookers to cheer their appreciation for the power of the N*! It was pretty cool, and the local cops are pretty decent about letting you have a little fun as long as it doesn't get out of hand. '09 Cadillac CTS-4 3.6 direct injection, 128 K mi. poopdeville
Well, lets hope that your salesmanship, combined with your "light show" will get you a buyer. Sad to hear the story and watch the outcome slowly unfold... I know how I would feel in the same situation if it was my old girl... Much as I like a nice '69 Chevelle, I would bet that you got more attention in the Goose than he did... because Caddies aren't supposed to do that now are they? Good luck with your follow ups... sprucegoose
Thanks Mike, I hope I can find a good home for her. I hate to think this is the end of such a beautiful car. You know, it's hard to say, but you may be right about the attention it got upon my exit. One thing for sure, the smoke and smell hung around for quite a while longer than the Chevelle's disappearing act! You are right, nobody expects these big beautiful Caddys to have this kind of acceleration. I'll have to admit I had no clue to how much get-up-and-go the N* had until I took that first test drive in the "Sprucegoose"! '09 Cadillac CTS-4 3.6 direct injection, 128 K mi. Heck, I just thought I was getting another Eldo to replace the '83 I'd sold a few years back. Little did i know...
