Where do I start?
I was noticing a little "surging" in the transmission for a few days. Tonight, after driving, It wouldn't shift into reverse or drive. A few seconds later, it did go into drive and I made it home, but when I stopped in the driveway to open the door, it wouldn't move. Forward, or reverse.
I was hoping it was just a shift solenoid, but I fear something worse.
Any suggestions
No engine light.
150,000 miles
Rear drive.

After a few hours, I started the car and was able to move it into that garage.  It rumbles in reverse.

Any ideas?

It may be as simple as low fluid, though that could be from a problematic leak.  Any sign of leakage?

Hard to tell without year and trans model. 'CTS' is kind of vague.

Here is a link to some TSBs.....one looks interesting about a cracked fluid pickup that causes no forward and no reverse. But just guessing not knowing the year..

Having a scan tool that can see the operating data inside the transmission would be helpful.

I think that is the 5L40-E trans. But double check that. Coming up on 20 years old...really could be anything.

Here is a link to some common issues with that trans.
