Hi all.

A few weeks back I removed the oil filter housing from my 1997 Seville to replace the bad oil pressure sender.

I replaced the o-rings, sender, and I had ordered the bypass valve. When  I went to install the bypass valve it would not work.

I am pretty sure I was in the right place. I took the fitting off that the oil filter screws into and it was under it, to the side of it

The new valve sure looked too big compared to the one that was there.

I am going to be doing the same on my 97 Deville here in a few weeks and it has the exact same parts.

The part # for the valve is 25013759.

Anyone else ever change it.

I swear Every one I have ever gone to change was not right. Unless I am just looking at things wrong

This is new to me.  There is a by pass valve in the oil.filter adapter?  This is the first I ever hear about it, I would have.changed mine had I known

Why did I think the by pass valve was in the oil filter itself?

GM was more concerned with keeping the engine oil cool if the oil filter became clogged. IIRC it was only used/needed on the engines with oil coolers, but that is about all of the N*s I'm thinking.

i've never changed one though. Seen a few oil pressure relief valves go bad and burst the oil filter, that's pretty ugly :(

THERE IS ALWAYS ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB RIGHT - THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB AGAIN !!!

I have posted a picture in the first post.

I was thinking it was the part to the right of the threaded part the filter screws onto.

Maybe I am wrong.

The edge of it is just under the insert

Thanks, I thought that was a new photo!  :hatsoff: I have seen that valve but didnt know it was replacable.  You definately don't want that valve sticking or opening too easily.

Historically, what have you found wrong with them

Just figured since I was there and it was 20 years old it might not be a bad idea
