Daniel Evans
How do you check the vacuum control valves to see if they are operating properly?
winterset
I am not familiar with your car, but is this for the smog pump valve?
Daniel Evans
Yes, it has two, one for the front bank and one for the rear.
winterset
I don't know how to verify the check valves themselves. The electric air pump itself usually fails due to water intrusion and rust. Have you checked that your air pump is actually blowing out a stream of air? (Of course you have to wait till a start on a cold engine - usually overnight). If the air pump is not working, the downstream o2 sensor does not get the correct burst of fresh air it needs from a lit up cat to send the correct signal to the ecm, and a code or check engine light gets set. Logan
You can test them with a hand operated vacuum pump. Like the air pump motor...they too are subject to moisture issues...but not like the pump motor. It will be apparent some moisture has been flowing inside but I don't think it hurts them.
