This seems hard to believe at 54K miles, how long is the warranty for the powertrain? 5 years, 50K miles?, it must be out of warranty only recently? Assuming this car has not been abused (low tranny fluid, racing, accident, or a really heavy foot for its lifetime), this sounds like a defect. Is it leaking tranny fluid?, from the passenger side? We have seen the output shaft bushing go, but it will leak, and you will get a vibration, but I think you are using a different transaxle. This transmission is a 6 speed transmission correct? I only have the service manual through 2005, and that was a 5 speed tranny. airmike Posted September 24, 2011 Report Share Posted September 24, 2011 If the seal is on a recall, you might talk the mechanic into replacing the bushing while in there and pay the price of bushing and install at that point and save a bunch of money. BodybyFisher Posted September 24, 2011 Report Share Posted September 24, 2011 If your 6 speed is like this 2008 six speed, the tail shaft housing can be removed and its possible that the bushing is accessible. If that is the case, this may not be too bad for a DIYer. Hopefully someone with an 2006 manual can post a scan of your tranny, I only have up to the 2005 manual Airmike is correct, they will need to remove the driveshaft to do the seal (if it has not been done yet) and there may be some cost savings. Look at that drive shaft flange, I wonder how that comes off?
