ezdavie
2001 Deville DHS 4.6L, 140,000 mi: After replacing both CKS sensors and Intake Manifold Plenum started getting DTC C1287. This code does not initiate at every ignition cycle . . . intermittent at best. Questions: 1) Is this sensor located inside the cabin at the bottom of the stering column? 2) Would there be any noticeable symptoms with the steering of the vehicle? 3) What would be the consequences of not replacing this sensor? So far, it is just an irritation that the code shows on the DIC. Any help/comments would be appreciated.

93SixtySpecial
I had this once with my 02 STS. Yes, it's at the bottom of the steering shaft. If you look underneath the dash, almost near the firewall, you'll see a white round sensor that fits over the steering shaft. It's about 3 inches across. You should be seeing a "Service Stability System" message too. I got that message when I had that code. The sensor is inexpensive, but a pain to replace. You won't notice any difference in steering, but when you have that code, your stabilitrak will not be engaged. -Dusty- 2006 Cadillac DTS Glacier Gold Tri-Coat with 175,000 miles 1993 Cadillac Sixty Special Gold Mist with 185,000 miles
coolnesss
I'm getting a C1287 intermittently but often on the traction control codes on my 2002 ETC, and its lighting up the service stability system warning. My car's out of alignment moderately bad. I think I seem to remember something to the effect that a bad alignment can throw that code - am I right, or should I just get a sensor and take it to the mechanic at the same time I take it for alignment and perhaps save a trip?
