mudweiser
I just replaced the head gasket and timesert on my 97 STS. Everything is ready to go, i went to bump the key to be sure it will build oil pressure. I turn the key to run and the fuel pump kicks on, then off like it should. All the dash lights looked ok but the "traction control" light is on no matter what position the button is in. I hit the key to start and there is nothing. the dash lights go out except for the "service engine" and "parking brake". I have double and triple checked all the grounds and wiring. Any ideas whats going on here? If i leave the key in the run position the ride level kicks in nand works fine. The project went soo well until now. Where can i buy elbow grease? I don't want to use any of mine!
BodybyFisher
Reset all breakers in the under hood relay center, by pulling them and reinstalling them Check that all relays are installed and tight and none are missing by accident, recheck the starter relay One of the positive cables goes to the starter and the other to the relay center correct? Battery is good?, remember it has been sitting Make sure the neutral safety switch (PNRDL) module is adjusted correctly, have you run it through the manual gears and does the display look right?, did you mark that module before you removed it? Connections at battery are good? You'll get this, stick with it One thing, STEVE from another thread is thinking of doing the job you just did, I am not sure how experienced he is, how difficult is this job for an average DIYer? mudweiser
Reset all relays. All relays are tight. Yes, one battery cable goes to the starter and the other to the relays. Battery is showing 12+ volts. It was on the charger before i installed it. I also tried a jump box. I marked the transmission gear selector switch. The dash indicator lights seem to be correct. Tried starting it in all gears. Battery connections are good. Over all the job was not too bad. There was a few things i would do different such as the size and design of our made engine cradel/cart. Up until now, the worst part was splitting the motor from the tranny. Timeserting was a very long and time consuming task. bolt plate, drill, clean, tap, clean, insert treads and do it all over another 19 times! If this turns out okay, i might be in the market for another Cadi with a bad gasket. I have had worse jobs. Although i can't say, this is not up and running yet. Still troubleshooting the electrical. The relays are clicking everytime i hit the key. Where can i buy elbow grease? I don't want to use any of mine!
mudweiser
Is it possible this slipped into security mode? When i turn on the key, the security light is on but if i wait about 5 seconds it goes off. I hit the key to start, nothing but when i relax the key the security light comes on then goes back off. BodybyFisher
For the hell of it, check to see if you have any codes setting, a security code that would stop starting would set, I believe I was thinking security myself Try disconnecting the battery's negative cable for a moment, maybe the pcm is scrambled from all of the work Did you connect the solenoid wire? mudweiser
What would a security code be? It did have a bunch of codes. More then i know what they are. I did pull the intake again to double check connections. Everything is hooked up. If i just jump the starter it cranks over. Power is going constant to the starter relay. However, when the key is bumped to start, there is not any power telling to relay to engauge. Where can i buy elbow grease? I don't want to use any of mine! mudweiser
Update; the ignition relay under the hood in the relay center does click when i hit the key to start. However the purple wire still does not get 12 volts when the key is turned to start. I did switch it ut with another relay thats the same and it did not change anything. 1:30AM, i'm sick of the car for tonight. Where can i buy elbow grease? I don't want to use any of mine! KHE
There is a two-wire connector near the rear cam cover that you may have left disconnected - that feeds the power from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid and the knock sensor. If it is disconnected, it will result in the symptom you describe. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71

mudweiser
Score. It cranks, and fires up. I only ran it for about 2 seconds cause i didn't fill the coolant yet just in case i had to remove anyting with coolant. Now, the bummer is i have no idea what it was. The last thing i did was replaced the 30a seat breaker with one i had. Before that, i removed and cleaned up the relay terminals for the headlamps and acc. I don't know, but it cranks and fires now. Update later. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond to this tread. Once the motor runs for a while i'll pull codes again and post results. Where can i buy elbow grease?
