I am buying a cd deck for my 93 sts and I want to know how difficult it would be to install my self. I dont want to go around rippen wires around and creating more problems. I have got a few bucks to spend on upgrades and I am working on my sound system now and would like to save a lot of money on installation charges. I am not going to mess around with the subs, amps and speakers but the deck seams generally easy! What do you think!

I'm not sure if it can be done. Somewhere else on this board this question was once raised and I think the issue of installing aftermarket electronics brought up the question of whether codes would be set by the aftermarket parts. Do a search and see what comes up or wait for someone else to respond to this thread.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

I put a Nakamichi MB-75 six cd deck in the console with a 10in Bazooka sub-woofer in the trunk, using the original Bose speakers. No codes, no problems.

Depending on what Bose system yours has on board, this type of modification will affect the installation techniques. I know that that intergal amplifiers on the Bose speakers had to be disconnected (no big trick, one wire at each speaker).

Bottom line, I'd take it to a qaulified sound shop and let them have at it. The place that did mine knocked it out in a little more than an hour. and it was no big deal to them. Most of the wires are right there, they just tapped into them. You just need to know which ones.. ;)

PS; In response to your other thread on sub woofer size and space limitations, the 10" Bazooka amped tube-sub sounds great, and fits nice and tight up against the back seat. I took out the rear sound panel to give up more space, and to allow sound transmission. The trunk still has PLENTY of room, and in a real pinch, the Bazooka unstraps and unplugs for a quick r&r.

I dont think you'll have any trouble putting a deck in yourself. The only thing with your Caddy, if it's the same as mine. There is alot of excess room, the cd deck is just sitting in the plain open space.

What I did was heated some Vinyl on a plastic spacer to make it look alot better,

matches the black interior.

the bose system has what a lot of pros call a "brain box". its in the trunk. puting the cd player in you would just hook up with the wires in the dash to the unit, but if you wanted to replace the factory speakers youd have to wire from the brain box in the trunk. leave it to caddy to make computers complicated.

That looks nice! How'd you do that exactly? I was going to replace my factory stereo and I had the same concern the plastic piece they would put in there may look generic.

I replaced my entire Bose system with a Blaupunkt deck and speakers. It took about 20 hours of labor,(fifteen of those were just staring at things trying to figure crap out) but totally worth it. E-mail me if you want any pointers.

i just put alpine cd deck in mine and ended up wiring everything from the deck bypassing factory wires except for power and lights. to much B.S. trying to use factory wiring. you need special harness to run from trunk up to dash and its cheaper to buy a roll of good speaker wire than the harness.

Kenwood deck, Rockford amp, infinity's all around. Rewired the system. Took a couple of hours. I left all the original wiring in just in case I wanted to return to stock.

It's not that hard, just a little time consuming.
