It is likely your hub bearing on your compressor, take the belt off, and roll the ac pulley and rock it to see if there is play or roughness

Just so you know, there is a short belt that will allow you to bypass your AC compressor until you get it fixed

Hi - I'm new here but I just got 2001 Seville STS with the Northstar engine. When I went to start it up it broke the belt. I determend that the AC compressor was locked up. I want to get a shorter belt till I can get the car home and replace the compressor - Does anyone know what belt I should buy? Thanks!

The bearing is less than $10.00 at a bearing supply house. The bearing can be changed without messing with the refrigerant charge. All it takes is some special tools to pull the clutch plate and pulley. Autozone has some of them in their loan a tool program. The others are available from any decent parts store. Much cheaper than a new compressor.
