ted tcb
Recently, I've put a fair bit of money into my STS. None of it was really necessary, but I was trying to make the car perfect. I've changed all the fluids, serpentine belt, high end tires and RFB, coil packs, plugs, brakes, belt tensioner, new center caps, wiper blades, etc. Sure adds up. The bonus is my 2003 STS with Nav runs like a new car ... I can WOT all day long, then idle in traffic and the temp gage never budges. No shimmy, no weird noises, nothing wrong at all, and I'm around 83,000 miles. Yesterday, someone offered to purchase the car. I was briefly tempted to replace the STS with something a little newer ... after looking around, I came to my senses and realized that there is nothing out there for under $10k that I want as much as my STS. I just turned down the offer a few minutes ago. ted tcb
Thanks, Mike. I go back and forth on STS', or luxury cars in general. In between my 5 STS', I've owned a Mazda3, Corolla, Civic, Intrigue, ES300, LS400, LS430, Accord, LeSabre, and a few others. Every time I tire of a Seville, I flip into another car, and ultimately yearn to get back to an STS. I still turn my head every time an STS goes down the road, and you see less of them all the time. They can be expensive to own when you don't perform your own service, but I only drive the STS around 10 to 20 miles per week. In the summer, I pretty much live in my 1991 Miata, and my work commute is about 2 miles each way. Wholesale value on STS' are insanely low, so I was tempted to take an offer of around $7500. However, after checking out the used car market at $8k or so, I was shaken to see the crap that's offered up for sale. When do you figure you'll be ready to jump into another Cadillac? 1989 FWD Fleetwood, Silver 1995 STS Crimson Pearl on Black leather 1997 STS Diamond White 1999 STS Crimson Pearl 2001 STS Silver 2003 STS, Crimson Pearl
BodybyFisher
Not sure yet. I see and STS and ETC on Craigslist right now with proported head gasket problems, I have emails out on them. I am hoping to 'steal' one like that. I want a beauty that is overheating.....that I can say, its a $4000 job (which it is when you do the surrounding PM needed). I see one now for $900... I want one that someone has given up on.... that is where I can turn an upside... You made the right decision, you remember how you felt the last time you got rid of the STS.. firefoot0315
I've considered trading my STS for something a bit more economical, since I commute 400 miles a week for school, but at 16 years old it's good for about $3000, and I think I'd be hard-pressed to find a decent Civic that cheap. Moreover, it's my grandparents' old car, and in that there would be some stigma in selling it. But most of all I have come to love it in a way I never my loved my old Honda CR-V. It is my car, I have put a lot of time, money, and sweat into getting it running great, and it has been a wonderful commuter, hot rod, date car, etc for the past 10 months or so. So I will continue paying $100 a week for gas during the school year, and enjoy the ride the whole way. No matter where you go, there you are.
