Fusion
First off, I'm new to these forums, so hello to all my fellow Cadillac lovers! I finally (after roughly 22 years) got myself a Cadillac. I paid $550 for a 1978 Coupe DeVille, everything stock but the stereo. The car is in alright shape, though pretty much every aspect of it needs some sort of work. The body is straight, with a little surface rust and NO rust through cancer. The interior is in pretty rough shape all the way around. The motor is where my attention is going as of now... Here's my issue: It has a rough idle in park, or in gear. It runs fine above about 10 MPH. I'm not sure if it is lacking power or not, since it's had this issue since I got it 2 months ago. What I've done: Replaced PCV valve, fuel filter, and cracked vacuum hoses. Did a vacuum leak test with a can of carb cleaner, and didn't discover much, really, as I have never done that before. As a temp. fix, I cranked up the idle screw to compensate, just so I don't have to worry about it dying on my at a stop sign. Any ideas? I know I have some slightly crazy "blow-by" going on, for one. As there was A LOT of oil in the PCV valve when I removed the old one.

Texas Jim
That car has the Rochester Quadrajet carburetor on it. Have you checked the mixture screws for proper adjustment? (I think the 78 still had screws) Is it "SMOOTH" at anything above a fast idle? Like Body by Fisher said...It may just need a set of plugs and wires. BodybyFisher
I corrected the title of this thread, it was not descriptive enough. Check your engine mounts also, and as JIM said, take a look at your carburator mixture settings, etc. The carb can probably do well with a rebuild, ie, cleaning, gaskets, float valve, float check, accelerator pump, etc...
