Delayed Light Turn Off Settings?

Recommended Posts

I just got my 06 DTS and just love it. On my 02 SLS there was the slide lever to adjust the amount of time that delayed before the outside lights went off. I can't find the adjustment on my DTS. I would like to extend the time it takes for the lights to go off. Hopefully I am missing something.

Your DTS does have headlight control with time delay switch-off and dusk sensor. It might be rotatable switch instead of a slide one. The owners of 06 DTS will chime in soon. :)

I too have a 2006 DTS.

Tell us more about your car.

:D

Go into the DIC settings...

The headlight delay is set from the DIC.

There are a bunch of other settings that you can change also from the DIC.

You can also program how the door locks work from the DIC.

Texas Jim...

Thanks for the info. I had gone through the DIC menu, but missed the delay on the lights going off. Got it done now! Moved it out to a minute from 30 seconds.

OK, twist my arm... let me tell you a bit about my car!! Ha Ha. After narrowing my choice down to two, I asked for the advice of the group to confirm my decision on which one to buy. I wanted a Diamond White one and had found two that I liked. Both were 2006's. One was a Level II with 35,000 miles on it. No Bose, no massaging seats, also missing a few other things that the other car had... Not Certified. $21,500. The one that I ended up buying was a Diamond White Level III, 45K, with Bose, Massaging seat, upgraded wheels, Real wood. and a few other things. It did not have Navigation or adaptive Cruise. But it is Cadillac Certified, with a bit over two years or 55,000 miles of coverage left. $20,500.

I have only had this car for a week and about 800 miles... but I LOVE it. I am 50 something, not a super agressive driver, and want a powerful, smooth, comfortable ride. I like the bench seat as it allows me to spread out my legs without running into a console. There is not a nick on my car, and it just gleams!! I can't help looking back at it when I go somewhere and leave it.. LOL. The Bose Radio is awesome.

This is my 6th Cadillac. I had a 1985 Eldorado Barritz. White, with Blue leather. 4100 (yuk!). It was a pretty good looking car, but not much power and not that well built. I got sick of the digital speedometer flashing "85" as that was the max speed it would display. It just pretty well fell apart and I traded it in on a new Dodge Neon for my College age son!! LOL

A while later I got a 1995 SLS. This was probably the fastest car of the whole bunch. It would really fly. At about 120,000 miles it developed a crack in the transmission. I decided to just sell it as is. I advertised it on this group, and some guys drove out to Iowa from Cleveland and towed it back.

I then bought a 1998 Diamond White SLS on EBAY from Cavender Cadillac in San Antonio, TX. All my friends thought I was NUTS bueing a car sight unseen from 1,500 miles away. I remember the day the transport rolled up to my house. The car was just beautiful. I had it for about 3 years, and put on about 60,000 miles. The car met it's demise one evening when me and a friend were "flying" to the Casino to play a little poker. A big buck deer decided he wanted to meet my SLS head on at about 85 mph. Well, the buck lost the battle, but the SLS came out of it severly wounded. This was the first time I had ever had airbags deployed. Quite an experience. My insurance company totaled the car. Again, I advertised it on this forum, and Tommy from North carolina came out and put her on a truck. Tommy... you still out there?

I took my insurance money, added some to it and bought a 2002 SLS. Crimson Pearl. A very pretty car... and I have to date put 115,000 miles on it. It now has 155K on the odometer. It is not without it's issues, but they are issues that I don't want to spend the money on. It still runs like a top, and I am not afraid to head out on a 3,000 mile trip in her. My check engine light is on and about 25,000 miles ago, my dealer told me that it was a torque converter output error. I am not technical at all, but I was not going to spend $2,000+ on the car with 130K on it. So I figured I would just drive it till it quit... well, still drives good 25K later! Also, the "servce stabilization" message comes on quite often. I just turn it off. LOL. My windshield washer button is broke. If you push it in, it will not come back out, and will drain the washer fluid. $350 repair, so my trusty pocket knife works just fine to pop out the botton! We still have this car, and use it for our everyday driver, and will save the DTS for longer trips. We paid $15,000 for the SLS and have 6 years and 115,000 miles on it, and it still has some value. We have only done maintenence on it(Coolant, ect) and put a high priced battery in it. Not a bad investment, if it falls apart tomorrow.

Whoops... I forgot about the 1995 DeVille we bought our other college age son. It had 75,000 miles on it when we bought it 7 years ago for $4,500. It now has 140,000 on it, and my son won't give it up! Even though he has graduated and has a good job. :) He said new cars in his price rance "feel cheap" !

So, now that brings me up to the 2006 DTS we just got. It is everything I buy a Cadillac for. I am 6'2" 250 lb former college football player. I don't care about stiff, european style performance. I don't want to "feel the road"... just let me float down the highway at 80 with the radio blasting with ALL the whistle and bells Cadillac is famous for. I love driving a bigger car, but am very satisfied with the 27 mpg I get when I am out on the highway. In 2004 I was very worried if Cadillac was going to have a car at least the size of my '02 SLS that I liked the looks of. When the 2006 DTS came out I told my wife.. "Thats our next Caddy"!!!

I do feel great that I have a couple of years or 55K of Caddy Certified warranty... It makes me feel comfortable. and I LOVE my car. One of my friends recently bought a new Impala. and asked me why I would spend 20K on a used car. Well, he rode with me to a golf tournament last weekend... and by the time we got home he was wondering how much his Impala would bring on trade towards a Certified Caddy like mine :) I LOVE the big depreciation of Caddy's in the first few years. It wllows me to drive one... LOL.

Well, thanks if you have read all this. Thanks to the group for all the help.

Adallak..... I did get a bit carried away didn't I?? LOL

Concerning the Fleetwood... I probably would have loved that car wouldn't I? I actually got into my first SLS by accident. I drove it as a loaner for a weekend and fell in love with it.. and just stuck with the Sevilles.. If I would have had a Fleetwood for a loaner I probably would have loved it too!!

Attached is a picture of the car that first started my love of Luxury rides... even using premium @ 10 mpg!!

If you like RWD you will probably love a Fleetwood. I do not know why people say RWD is more fun to drive. To me, my 91 Seville was much smoother on shifts. That 1976 Lincoln is a beauty.

Steve,

Glad to hear that you are liking your DTS.

In my opinion...you did the right thing getting the LUX lll and getting it with the CPO.

I really like my 2006 DTS.

It has been a good car.

I bought it new and have almost 80,000 on it now.

I sometimes drive a little over the speed limit...as I see you do also. :D

Just wait till you get it out on a road trip.

You will love it even more.

It is a superb highway cruiser... you can drive for hours and hours and not be tired out.

If you have any questions I can help you with...don't hesitate to ask.

OH...do you have owners manual?

If not... I have it in a PDF file that I can email to you.

And BTW... I had a 2002 MARK lV.

Bought it cheap during the gas crises of 2004. :D

Hey, a 2002 Mark IV??? I thought those were a lot earlier that that??

Your post about your trip to the dragstrip was interesting. I bet the performance surprised a few people didn't it? Not bad for a Luxury Cruiser!!

I am so sorry...I meant a 1972...not 2002...I don't know what my fingers were thinking.

If I am not mistaken...Mark IV's were made from 1972 to 1976.

Mine was a dark Copper/Bronze color with a lighter colored vinyl roof.

And the gas crises I was talking about was in "74"... not 2004...

I sure wasn't paying attention to what I was typing that night..:D

Yes, we had fun at the strip.

We met some friends that drove down from Stillwater Oklahoma.

Our son came up there from Ft. Worth.

Another friend that has a really bad 10 second '66 Chevy Nova was also there.

Some other friends came up there from San Antonio.

The "REAL PURPOSE" of us all going was to watch our friend race the 10 second Nova.

It wasn't to race my Cadillac. :D :D :D

But I really had a good time running it, anyway.

Once when I had been sitting in line for several minutes...I left it running with the AC on.

It was pretty darn warm out there yesterday.

I am an older gray haired guy...65 years old...

As I pulled up to the burnout area... one of the officials came over to the car and told me to turn off the AC...it was dripping water on the track.

I told him..."HEY'''It's a Cadillac...do you expect me to drive around with no AC?"

He laughed and said .."Well..do you have Elvis on the radio?"

I told him..."SHO NUFF"..."Right here on XM."

He actually stuck his head in the window and looked at the XM display and saw that Elvis is one of my station selections.

He stuck his microphone in the car and had me turn the volume up...so it played over the PA system...

He backed up from the car...just laughing his "you know what" off... and waved for me to go ahead and run.

He announced over the PA system for everyone to pay respects to the Cadillac that was fixing to run while playing Elvis really loud on the stereo.

I thought the whole thing was funny as heck.

And pretty cool at the same time.

:D :D :D :D
