WarrenJ
I have the Helm Inc. service manuals for my '95 Eldorado, but would like to have the same on CD-ROM. It would be helpful, from time to time, to be able to print out certain pages. The Helm Inc. home page does not offer the option of a CD-ROM purchase. It seems I recall folk around here having mentioned purchasing such a manual on CD-ROM. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises
CadiKing
Warren, I see them on Ebay all the time... Idea seems great. My concern was how well the search function works. Like you, I chose the book version.. (34.99 + Shipping) Let us know if it is identical, page for page. Love it.
Logan
There are some CDs...most on eBay are copies and will not load into your computer without disc errors. Original GM discs ARE worth a bunch. They will work. You may also need to download a newer version of Java to get them to work. It will gobble up 5-6 gig of your hard drive. That being said....pre 1998 cars....the info is limited to powertrain codes and service bulletins. 1998 and later coverage is fantastic. As for '94....forget it. Use the Helm service manual. JohnnyG
Are you sure people wern't talking about the AllData CD rom? I had one of those for a car I once owned. Didn't totally suck, but not enough detail to do any serious work. Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.
Logan
The 'popular mechanics' Alldata CDs are a joke. I think we are talking about the GM dealership ESI CDS...newer ones are called SI2000. The older ESI setup had you insert a disc for a certian year/model of car....didnt work very good. The SI2000 is installed onto the hard drive. It does take 5-6 g to install....but works very well. As mentioned...most eBay CDR copies have fatal errors from burning them too fast. Cab errors etc. Pay the extra for a original GM set. Its like having the complete GM service manual for all models...1998 and newer, everything....bulletins...diagrams....any circuit....basically the complete GM line...including Saturn. '96-97...limited to powertrain diagnostics and codes. '95 and older. Just TSBs/ bulletins.
