Cadillac Jim
The first thing to do is to run the OBD codes, write them down and post them here. Here's how: http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html From what you say, the first thing I would look at is the switch on the shifter. But, first things first, let's see what the computers know about what is happening with your car. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Bruce Nunnally
Probably either the transmission, or the prndl switch (the shifter is not signalling to the transmission that it needs to be in reverse). Run the gear selector all the way through all positions a couple of times then put it in reverse. Then try to reverse and see if it responds.
