badrhino
I just bought this car 3-4 months ago and thought I got a steal other than the fact that before I even took ownership it was in the shop haveing some sensor replaced in the tranny ($400). Starting problems, interior pieces falling off, wheel speed sensor problems!!!!!!! Now I start the car up and notice the power steering pump making noise when turning. I look under the hood and see that the serpentine belt is filmed with oil. what now? Any suggestions as to what could be doing this? Power steering pump leaking......? Something else leaking? Today is the day you were worried about yesterday!
coolnesss
Most likely a power steering hose. Check the level in the power steering pump and don't let it get low. The hose is a basic maintenance item - they go from time to time, just as brakes do. If the hose is leaking, you'll need to change it quickly, because hydraulic oil on the serpentine belt can bring on more problems later. How many miles are on your car? This is a 1999, its a ten year old car Its a new USED car to you and will need repairs What is the cars history, how many owners, was it abused? Was the car maintained properly Was it abused by prior owners? Was it ever a rental? Were proper repairs done or did a slam bang mechanic work on it Have repairs been delayed or put off? How many miles? UMM, you might have got a STEAL because it NEEDED WORK $400 for a TRANNY SENSOR for a 10 year old car is CHEAP, they wanted $1700 to replace mine (ISS SPEED SENSOR), I replaced it PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP with the !!!!!!!!!!, WHAT NOW and COMPLAINTS We are here to help not to listen to you whining!!!!!!!!!!! <<< hows that for exclamation marks, do you like that??????? Just explain the problem, and we will try to help but STOP THE DRAMA Based on this sequence of questions, you appear to have no mechanical experience: "the serpentine belt is filmed with oil. what now? Any suggestions as to what could be doing this? Power steering pump leaking......? Something else leaking" Used cars are NOT for the faint of heart, unless you have DEEP pockets to have the repairs done or you can diagnose and repair the car yourself, you need to get rid of this car and buy something less complex, think Toyota Tercel or Honda Accord, wind them up and they run forever. badrhino
You're right bodbyfisher I don't know *smurf*. lol And it is not whining! I am sick of buying cars and having them break down. I don't give a *smurf* what year they are. Can people not vent on this site or is it against the law? You sound like you are whining more than i was. Also I have plenty of mechanical experience I just had to work and couldn't look to see what the problem was. After I had the time to look and get someone inside to turn the wheel as I watched I seen the problem. Yes it is the power steering hose leaking. Thank you! joeb
the NS has the waterpump on the intake side. not the p/s side like on a buick 3.8 my grand prix was leaking coolant onto the serp belt so it could have been confused with a p/s leak. i see your point. when you take off the high pressure line, can you tell me if there is a small o-ring on the outlet fitting? i had my line off a few times and if there was an o-ring, it is gone now. i don't have a leak though. where exactly is your hose leaking? the outlet is vertical. the inlet side is angled towards the front of the motor with a plastic hose barb. badrhino
Got the price to fix it from the caddy dealer and it is going to be $140 labor and $250 for the hose (gm) or go the aftermartket route ($70) hummm wich one should I choose?
